Historia
In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

It’s a very fine line between too exciting to fall asleep and too boring to hold my interest. This performance has found it. I have not been awake to finish one yet. I love Sherlock Holmes, but so many are recorded by “virtual voice”. Gross. This performer brings the characters to life, while adding the pauses and rhythmic phrasing that signal the brain to relax.

Historia
The unapologetic intensity with which Emily Brontë wrote this story ensures that it will forever be considered one of the greatest works of English literature. A passionate tale of a chaotic and often violent love, Wuthering Heights transcends your average romance and, with its Gothic undertones, takes the listener on a journey through one man's lustful hunt for revenge.

Flawless Narration
Revisado: 01-24-24
Worth it to hear Joanne Froggatt’s one woman show. She does each character perfectly. I’ve always thought the story was weird but she makes it quite entertaining.

Phenomenal Narration
Revisado: 05-03-23
The narration by Elisabeth Rodgers is better than anything I have ever heard. Countless characters and none of them annoying. I found myself completely forgetting that this was a one woman show. Incredible. I also loved this truly unique story. I wish it didn’t have so much vulgarity, but it was always used in the context of evil versus good, and it serves its purpose. Well-written and thought-provoking.

Historia
What a many-colored career that was which began amidst the pastoral solitudes of Bethlehem, and ended in the chamber where the dying ears heard the blare of the trumpets that announced the accession of Bathsheba's son! None of the great men of scripture pass through a course of so many changes as David; none of them touched human life at so many points; none of them were so tempered and polished by swift alternation of heat and cold, by such heavy blows and the friction of such rapid revolutions.

References Get in the way
Revisado: 10-15-21
I wanted to love this book and will probably read it. It doesn’t work, though, when every single sentence the man reads is interrupted by the Bible references. Makes it too choppy and hard to follow. I don’t think they were meant to be read aloud.

Trash novel
Revisado: 10-14-21
I’m really not into trash novels. Didn’t make it too far in because it’s literally just about kids having sex. No time for a plot. Just sex. No thanks.
