Historia
Even decades after their arrival, Corrine and Russell Calloway still feel as if they're living the dream that drew them to New York City in the first place: book parties or art openings one night and high-society events the next; jobs they care about (and in fact love); twin children whose birth was truly miraculous; a loft in TriBeCa and summers in the Hamptons. But all of this comes at a fiendish cost.

Engaging Storyline!
Revisado: 09-25-24
The narration is, of course, past compare (Eduardo Ballerini, of course!) and I enjoyed the manner in which the Author developed both the characters and the story itself. Without the expletives, this, in my opinion, would’ve been a great story. This was my first Jay McInerney and bar all the cursing, it was quite engaging. I kept holding my breath, wondering how far Corrine would go with Luke (very daring!) and also found myself wondering if this is a true reflection of how New Yorkers go about their lives. Unfulfilled, discontented lives, it appears. Hmmm…

Historia
It’s the summer of 2019, and Professor Pi Suleman is a Black man from Memphis with a lot to endure - not only as a Black man in Trump’s America but in his hard-earned career as an adjunct professor. Pi is constantly forced to bite his tongue in the face of one of his tenured colleague’s prejudices and microaggressions. At the same time, he’s being blackmailed by a powerful professor who threatens to claim he has assaulted her, when in fact the truth is just the opposite, trapping him in a he-said-she-said with a white woman that, in this society, Pi knows he will never win.

Dickey’s inimitable style!
Revisado: 09-21-24
I honestly didn’t know what I was getting into when I bought this book as I like to explore - bar the expletives and the prolonged lewd scenes (and despite those!), it was refreshing! As one of the protagonists in the book says, makes me want MORE of this author! I’m hooked😄

The narration was highly commendable - January Lavoe no less - but would have preferred more story and less kissy-kissy!

Almost stopped halfway!
Revisado: 04-21-24
The story wasn’t half bad but the main protagonist with her self-sabotaging thoughts really irritated me. Almost dumped the book but decided to persevere because Ricky was a man after my own heart and I’ve jumped on him had I met him in my distant youth. All’s well that ends well.

Historia
In the South, you always say “yes, ma’am” and “no, ma’am.” You know everybody’s business. Football is a lifestyle, not a pastime. Food — especially dessert — is almost a religious experience. And you protect your friends as fiercely as you protect your family — even if the threat is something you cannot see.

A Master Weaver!
Revisado: 10-22-23
Another excellent novel - must give credit where it is due! However, a different narrator would’ve been more appropriate as African accents are not well mastered by a Caucasian - unless born and bred in Africa. A rare breed.

Loved the narrator!
Revisado: 10-08-23
I stopped reading Wilbur Smith several years (could be a quarter century, if not more (you have to admit he’s a bit of a racist)) but decided to listen now that I’m on Audible. I must admit that I have really enjoyed listening as the Narrator has brought all the excitement and adventure to life for me. I have already decided to purchase another Wilbur Smith where the narrator is the very same. A very good read, I must say.

Revisado: 06-25-23
A very pleasant surprise as the Title doesn’t give anything off - I just couldn’t stop listening! Well written - keeps one at the edge of the seat - and the Narrator was superb. I’ll definitely be looking out for other books that she has narrated.
