Historia
By the time Henry Kissinger was made secretary of state in 1973, he had become, according to a Gallup poll, the most admired person in America and one of the most unlikely celebrities ever to capture the world’s imagination. Yet Kissinger was also reviled by large segments of the American public, ranging from liberal intellectuals to conservative activists. Kissinger explores the relationship between this complex man's personality and the foreign policy he pursued.

The reader was excellent
Revisado: 03-19-24
Well worth the listen, clearly a very talented individual who was successful academically, politically and then in business. Like all very successful people he had his flaws, but overall an asset to the country.

Historia
It is 1789, and three young provincials have come to Paris to make their way. Georges-Jacques Danton, an ambitious young lawyer, is energetic, pragmatic, debt-ridden - and hugely but erotically ugly. Maximilien Robespierre, also a lawyer, is slight, diligent, and terrified of violence. His dearest friend, Camille Desmoulins, is a conspirator and pamphleteer of genius. A charming gadfly, erratic and untrustworthy, bisexual and beautiful, Camille is obsessed by one woman and engaged to marry another, her daughter.

Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.

Fascinating
Revisado: 11-30-22
A truly interesting biography of a remarkable though flawed man. Living close to NYC made the story even more gripping, well worth the time required to listen to it.

Not sure why I wasted my time listening to this, I used to like A. E. van Vogt, but this was terrible.

You need stamina
Revisado: 11-15-05
Having read most of John Irving's books and enjoyed them I find this one tedious in the extreme. When I think about "Cider House Rules", "Hotel New Hampshire" etc. etc. I feel this is not in the same class

Historia
This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, a librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36, and were married when Clare was 22 and Henry 30. Impossible but true, because Henry has Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his past, present, and future.

Wonderful love story that takes a little while to get into, once that happened I could not put it down. A really fascinating concept, beautifully strung together, one of those books that you never want to end.
