Conflicted

I liked the story well enough . The readers high pitched tone kept me at a higher level of stress than I cared for.
Her shrill pronouncement of kinkys betrotheds name during conflicts was like nails on a chalkboard -
And double tragedy- pretty dark
I wish she’d given them more years together
I do like this writer though and look forward to getting back to the more familiar reader and characters

I disliked the readers nonchalant voice .
I disliked her not being able to change her voice to distinguish between characters
The set up for the mystery was convoluted and tedious
The romantics tension or lack thereof was grueling
I listened to this while coping with life altering stresses- i could tune in and out without losing the plot-I suppose that’s why I endured it to the end

Such a comfort

The characters are as lovable and complicated as ever
I especially loved that Bertie gets to go to Glasgow
The settings compelling and comforting
I could listen to this reader forever
Pleat more and more!

What would have made A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius better?

Oh my, I was so dispaapointed as I had loved Zaitoun. The excruciating detail about the bodily contents and fluids being expressed for his poor dying mom was so poorly placed. some softening and a little more time preparing us and getting us attached to the characters so that we felt connected and could integrate the images with some of the more lovely aspects of these people.
I was sickened and horrified, sad and heartbroken as I'd looked forward to another book of his

Having read the full text was sooooooooo bummed with the edited. It didnt come close to painting the picture of the life of these characters.

To fast! No savoring of the words or images. An exquisite story read without a pause for breath as if they were trying to save time and money.
Yuck, I would not recommend this as an audiobook.
