Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Du Maurier is of course world famous for many of her novels. These two stories are perhaps even better known as films ( The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock and Don't Look Now by Nic Roeg), but here we bring you the full terrifying texts, superbly read by Peter Capaldi, who brings the true dimension of these works to the imagination.

Historia
For Ronit Krushka, 32, single and living on Manhattan's Upper West Side, Orthodox Judaism is a suffocating culture she fled long ago. But when she learns of the death of her estranged father, the preeminent rabbi of the London Orthodox Jewish community in which she was raised, she returns home. But as she reconnects with old acquaintances and the traditional ebb and flow of the community, Ronit becomes more than a stranger in her old home: she becomes a threat.

Great narrator, involving story, anticlimactic
Revisado: 08-09-13
Have you ever read a book that surprised you? I picked this one expecting a trash novel, but got an involving story with interesting characters instead. About 2/3s of the way through it took a wrong turn for me - but I could at least see how the characters might have made those choices. Then closer to the end it stopped being detailed and involving and seemed to run out of steam, skipping a week, and then months ahead with no mention of the life--altering decisions that must have happened in-between. Suddenly, everything is anticlimactic and sketchy.
Also, I'm gay and there seemed to be a very odd vision of what that means in somebody's life. I understood the Estee character's reasoning and motivations, and the cousin\husband's - but Ronit, the main character, while she was interesting and the character felt right, the choices the author made for her U.S. relationships felt false, except for the shrink.
But the first 2/3s of it were surprisingly good and the narrator had a great character range.

Best Audiobook so far
Revisado: 04-26-12
Would you consider the audio edition of The Poisoner's Handbook to be better than the print version?
Haven't read the print version, but loved the narrator. Coleen Marlo is someone I will listen to again.
What did you like best about this story?
The humor, the stuff I learned about both chemistry and history, how the separate stories intertwined and created a real narrative.
Which scene was your favorite?
The relationship between the Gettler and Norris. Particularly, how Norris protected Gettler's time.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Several. The Central Park story, the story that began in one chapter and ended in another, everything about Norris's political challenges.
Any additional comments?
Overall excellent.

Historia
Before Liz Lemon, before Weekend Update, before Sarah Palin, Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: A recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told. From her youthful days as a vicious nerd to her tour of duty on Saturday Night Live. Tina Fey reveals all, and proves what we've always suspected: You're no one until someone calls you bossy.

Snappy fun
Revisado: 04-26-12
Would you listen to Bossypants again? Why?
Probably not. Although, I did enjoy it. Towards the end it gets a little slow.
What did you like best about this story?
Hearing Tina Fey read the book in her own voice added vulnerability and sincerity that I would not have picked up from the text.
Which character – as performed by Tina Fey – was your favorite?
It's autobiographical - the best character is obviously the author.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I keep reflecting on the way she described her father. The pride and yearning in her voice made an impact more than the actual words.
Any additional comments?
It was good. Exactly what I signed up for. Liked this one very much.

Historia
For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Gross but compelling
Revisado: 04-26-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If they have a strong stomach and no terminal diseases. It's a bit disorienting the way Mary Roach approaches things that would repel most people. Found myself taking deep breaths to calm myself at several points. But having that kind of effect generally means the writing is deeply involving.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The narrator had such a different take on what she was experiencing than I would that her perceptions were as fascinating as what she was describing.
Which character – as performed by Shelly Frasier – was your favorite?
Shelly Frasier was the right narrator for this book. That said, the characters weren't fully differentiated.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laughed, cried, got nauseous, banged on the steering wheel.
Any additional comments?
Do not listen on a full stomach. But listen.

Historia
The Psychopath Test is a fascinating journey through the minds of madness. Jon Ronson's exploration of a potential hoax being played on the world's top neurologists takes him, unexpectedly, into the heart of the madness industry. An influential psychologist who is convinced that many important CEOs and politicians are, in fact, psychopaths teaches Ronson how to spot these high-flying individuals by looking out for little telltale verbal and nonverbal clues.

Funny and scary at the same time
Revisado: 04-26-12
What did you love best about The Psychopath Test?
Ronson's slightly snarky narration.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
The journey from believing everything he was told to questioning the entire mental health industry was quite compelling.
What does Jon Ronson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Attitude.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Tony's story
Any additional comments?
Ronson has a definite point of view on the mental health industry and it shows. But he walks you through how he got there with humor and insight. Nicely done.

What was one of the most memorable moments of God, No!?
The guy eating the cheeseburger
Which character – as performed by Penn Jillette – was your favorite?
Penn
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When he talked about his sister and his parents
Any additional comments?
It's a lovely book if you really dig Penn Gillette (which I do). It's autobiographical stories that are funny, self-deprecating, and thoroughly entertaining. The title is misleading, it's not about signs you may already be an atheist, it's a walk through Penn's view on the world. LIke him even more as a performer after listening to this.

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. Pretty good story, clunky sounding though.
Revisado: 04-26-12
What made the experience of listening to The Hunger Games the most enjoyable?
The story is pretty good. Kept me listening.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Carolyn McCormick?
Possibly. I don't like this particular reading, but it may be the writing style that feels clunky. Not completely sure whether it's the reader or the way this author writes dialogue that is putting me off.
Any additional comments?
Predictable story, but told fairly well. The writing style or the narration is a bit clunky overall, but it kept me entertained.
