Historia
The Wars of the Roses were a tumultuous period in English history, with family fighting family over the greatest prize in the kingdom—the throne of England. But what gave the eventual victor of these brutal and complex wars, Henry Tudor, the right to claim the crown? What made his Beaufort mother the great heiress of medieval England, and how exactly did an illegitimate line come to challenge the English monarchy? This book uncovers the rise of the Beauforts and tracks their fall during the 1460s and 1470s.

Nicely read, well researched
Revisado: 05-27-24
Well written, well read, and accurate. It's a pleasure to find a history of the Beauforts that is so fully developed and so easy to listen to. I know this history and am pleased to say that it is factually represented in this book.

should have bought the book, used

I'm sorry I wasted a credit on this! I knew it wasn't literature, but expected to enjoy it as a guilty pleasure. it's too much of a catalog of luxury objects and places which interferes with the story, such as it is. A lot is asked of the narrator who has to try to help us distinguish among a huge cast, try as she might. But the mispronunciations of some English and French words is surprising. Is there any quality control? It ought to make a good movie because the script writers won't have to include the over use of adverbs. If I had read it, instead of listening, I would have been using a red pen ...

Historia
Hunting the Falcon is the story of how Henry VIII’s obsessive desire for Anne Boleyn changed him and his country forever. John Guy and Julia Fox, two of the most acclaimed and distinguished historians of this period, have joined forces to present Anne and Henry in startlingly new ways.

An excellent history
Revisado: 05-01-24
Although I have a good background in the history of this era, and especially Ann Boleyn' story, sthis book provides details and documentation of which I was not aware. it's a great addition to any library. I recommend it highly.

Historia
Travel writer Macon Leary hates travel, adventure, surprises, and anything outside of his routine. Immobilized by grief, Macon is becoming increasingly prickly and alone, anchored by his solitude and an unwillingness to compromise his creature comforts. Then he meets Muriel, an eccentric dog trainer too optimistic to let Macon disappear into himself. Despite Macon’s best efforts to remain insulated, Muriel upends his solitary, systemized life, catapulting him into the center of a messy, beautiful love story he never imagined.

A Story of Loss and Healing
Revisado: 07-08-21
I read this book when it was first published and loved it. When the movie came out, I was happy to see that it stayed true to the book, unlike many other movies based on an excellent book (Possession, for example).
Many times when I listen to a book, I am editing it as I listen, which is not the reason I buy an audible edition. Sometimes I wonder how many similes an author can use in one page.. why not a metaphor occasionally? There are no distractions such as that in this novel. It is so well-written - the characters are three-dimensional, the plot well-developed, the language rich and descriptive. This is not the kind of writing that tells you - it is the kind of writing that shows you.
The narrator is impressive. I could listen to this over and over again, and likely will.
