Historia
The Lucifer Priciple is a revolutionary work that explores the intricate relationships among genetics, human behavior, and culture to put forth the thesis that "evil" is a by-product of nature's strategies for creation and that it is woven into our most basic biological fabric. Though this argument is not a new one - it has been brought forth by such great historical figures as St. Paul, Thomas Hobbes, and Raymond Dart - Howard Bloom here takes fresh data from a variety of sources and shapes it into a lens through which listeners can reinterpret the human experience.

Amazing! Beyond amazing! Eye-opening
Revisado: 02-26-25
I have never heard a narration of world history like this. Bloom has some special and possibly innate ability to distill the story of mankind’s ebb flow of domination and submission, putting history in a totally new light for me.
This book explains better than anything I have ever heard or read, the human condition. Reading it has broadened my horizons immeasurably. Understanding our origins and the drive of our cultures to succeed and dominate, explains so much about what is going on around us and has for all of human history. Relating our struggles to the animal kingdom is brilliant. It enhances the understanding of how groups and cultures behave. It puts into perspective the existential why of bad things happening to good people.
Bloom also explains the origin and desire of all peoples for some higher purpose of being. The explanation of religion and its place in history as an amazing amalgamation of our current need and our ancient roots in inventing and clinging to deities and our man-made doctrines to go with them, is excellent.
This book is well read and highly entertaining. Parts are very difficult to listen to - especially the brutality of man against man. But as it is part of the explanation of how we behave, it has a place in this narrative.
There is so much information and insight in this book, it’s very much worth listening to more than once.

Historia
This isn't your ordinary "book about writing books." It's real, no-BS advice from someone who's done it—and has learned from the dozens of successes and failures of himself and his clients—from self-help to memoir to business, and everything in between. It demystifies every single step of the book writing process, from ideation to validation to outlining to writing habits, publishing and marketing.

Horrible narration!
Revisado: 02-26-25
The first part of the book is relatively interesting. He has some good points about how to write and market your book. That’s why I gave two of the reviews two stars. But there’s too much repetition of the main concept. It appears he’s limited in his ideas.
Far worse than that, the narration is intolerable. I can hear the narrator breathing and smacking his lips and making strange sounds throughout the reading. It’s very distracting as well as annoying. He also stumbles a lot and rather than edit it, he just continues and leaves those mistakes in the narration. In one case he repeated the same stumbling on a group of words at least three times. Maybe four. I’m sure they are many platforms on the Internet that can be used to edit a narrative.
Also, this book needs editing. I think too many authors are so self satisfied, they don’t see the need to have an editor help them. This book is in dire need of a good editor. Not only the narration part, but the actual text.
In addition, the author reads his work with almost zero enthusiasm. It’s as though he’s bored with his own work. And that makes me, the listener, bored.
I don’t believe most authors are capable of reading their own books with any success. Ted Turner is an exception. Listen to his and you will find a totally entertaining narration. But unless you’ve been trained, I don’t believe you would have the ability to infuse a book with enthusiasm and a sense of newness that a hired narrator can give.
In the end, I did not finish the book. The distractions of his raspy voice, clearing his throat, breathing sounds, stumbling over his own words and sounding completely bored, plus way too much repetition lost me. If an author can’t sound professional narrating his book, how am I supposed to think he has anything worth listening to???

Excellent Book!
Revisado: 11-19-24
This is one of the best books I've read in a long time! the concept is something everyone needs to understand. I love the way the author gives personal examples of his own struggles and how he overcame and he's still overcoming them. The book is not only enlightening and educational, it's also very encouraging. I recommend it to everyone. I don't remember if the author reads it himself or someone else does, but the narrator is also excellent. So easy to listen to!

Well worth reading
Revisado: 10-04-24
As part of a series relating to Michael Newtons work, this is well worth reading. I didn't give it five stars because I felt there was more conjecture on the part of the authors than simple narrative and dialog. One of the things I really liked about the Newton books is the actual dialogue of the patient while under hypnosis and with Dr. Newton after or between sessions. The outcome of their sessions - the psychological impact on the patient - is mostly inferred from the patients' own insights illustrated by doctor/patient dialogue. Wisdom of Souls seems to be more from the therapists' point of view - their insights and analysis rather than the patients'. That's not necessarily a bad thing and may have been necessary for brevity. However, the biggest problem I had with the book was the reader, Leslie Howard, She has a lovely voice, but because of her quiet, breathy way of talking I struggled to understand her. Granted I'm older, but I have not had this problem with other audiobooks. I think she would be a great reader of nursery books and stories to help children fall asleep.

The beloved actor shares fascinating and powerful lessons from the science of communication and teaches listeners to improve the way they relate to others using improv games, storytelling, and their own innate mind-reading abilities. With his trademark humor and frankness, Alan Alda explains what makes the out-of-the-box techniques he developed after his years as the host of Scientific American Frontiers so effective.

Good Read, fun to listen to.
Revisado: 05-08-24
Maybe you have to like Alan Alda as much as I do, but this book is entertaining, educational and just plain fun to listen to. I had no idea Alan Alda was involved in training others in his craft as well as helping corporations with communication. I learned a lot! And Alda is a great narrator as well. I highly recommend this book!

Historia
gentle romance begins innocently enough in the stalls of a London theatre where Catherine is enjoying her ninth and Christopher his thirty-sixth visit to the same play. He is a magnificent young man with flame-coloured hair. She is the sweetest little thing in a hat. There is just one complication: Christopher is 25, while Catherine is just a little bit older. Flattered by the passionate attentions of youth, Catherine, with marriage and motherhood behind her, is at first circumspect, but finally succumbs to her lover's charms.

Another delightful story from Elizabeth
Revisado: 04-02-24
The portraits of the various personalities and their version of love and its expression is truly remarkable. Elizabeth Arnim has impeccable insight into the workings of the mind. How she can get inside the mind of so many different personalities with their multifaceted backgrounds, strengths and insecurities is astounding. The story moves and intrigues from the very beginning. Much like Jane Austen, she doesn’t spend a lot of useless words on flowery speech and descriptions that bore the reader. So far, this book is second only to The Enchanted April.

Historia
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.
