Historia
Terrorists-for-hire have created a weapon that can induce earthquakes and cause dormant volcanoes to erupt. One terrifying side effect of the weapon is that prior to the devastation, the vibrations drive ordinary people to suicide and violence. A wave of madness begins sweeping the country beginning with a mass shooting in Congress. Joe Ledger and his team go on a wild hunt to stop the terrorists and uncover the global superpower secretly funding them. At every step the stakes increase as it becomes clear that the endgame of this campaign of terror is igniting the Yellowstone caldera.

Joe Ledger's Only Disappointment
Revisado: 09-15-19
Ray Porter delivers on the characters as well as ever. The story however had to be the only real disappointment in the series, as of yet. They've been getting wilder and wilder for years now. However, this one missed the mark thoroughly. None of the action felt the same. The combat was lazy and sparse. I didn't feel invested in the stakes of the story, because maybe it was too big. It started well enough, but by the time the President storyline and Russian hacking and interference was introduced, the entire experience of the book was reduced to a grind. It plays on misrepresented current events and effectively manages to make me roll my eyes every few minutes. The end game of the book is also a considerable let down, and I'm hesitant to continue to read the series after whatever the new tale is released. I don't see it coming back from this. Mayberry hasn't written a book I didn't absolutely enjoy until this one. I think the Joe Ledger saga is ready to be laid to rest.

Hit or Miss, but overall still worth it
Revisado: 02-21-18
Not so much of a Joe Ledger series of stories as a selection of different perspectives within the Joe Ledger universe. Most the stories (about 3 out of every 4) were really good, and certainly in the vein of the original series. Many of the authors lacked the ability to describe combat in the detailed way that original series was known for. Some stories fell flat entirely. Although I'm sure the crossovers were fun to write, a great many of them were more comedy than the original blend of humor, horror, and action. Ray Porter killed it as always. I would recommend wading through the bad stories in order to hear the few in here that are really worth it!

Historia
Thomas Malone thought he'd seen it all during his 25 years in the Birmingham homicide division. But then they found the body of a woman suspended above the opening of the mineshaft known as the Vertical, blood dripping into the chasm below. At the bottom of that shaft, two clues - a typed manuscript and a business card, blank but for a name on the front and a single sentence on the back.

Confusing tale or two
Revisado: 07-06-17
The very last story (barring the main story that continues throughout) was hard to follow in an audio format. I feel that the Jane/Mason/etc. Multiverse thing would have been easier to follow in print. I found myself rewinding and playing again many times during that tale.

Excellent Climax

And terrifically entertaining close to the series. Lots of build up and back story in the first two books! This one really does it though!
