Fun fantasy romp

This was a fun, well-written fantasy romance. The magic was intriguing, the characters likable, and the story was interesting. Bonus - there's a dragon, so yaay! Overall, a very enjoyable story. My only complaint is that the narration was a little lacking. But I believe there’s a different narrator for book 2, so onward and upward!

Fantastic Scyfy romance

I don't usually go for sci fi, or in this case dystopian sci fi, but I'm so glad I decided to take a chance on this one. While it took me a chapter or two to really get into it, once I did? That was it. It's a lengthy book, but honestly, once that story gets moving, it just keeps on going, with a wonderful flow that kept me from even being tempted to skim. I was hooked. The world was intriguing, yes, and the various species and abilities, as well, but it was the relationship between Tristan and Samara that really made the book for me. It was a fantastic slow burn romance that had me rooting for the couple at every turn of the page - all the way up to the end, where I definitely shed some tears, cursed the author, then reluctantly admitted that it truly was a fantastic ending that will have me holding my breath until the sequel. Bonus: the narrator's voice is lovely. Didn't make me wince like some do. Highly recommend!

A simple, lovely story

I truly enjoy Aster's smooth and flowing style of writing. Combined with Larkfield’s soothing voice, it was a pleasure to listen to. While there aren't a lot of twists and turns and "oh snap" moments, the gradual development of James's and Logan's relationship still manages to hold up the story and kept me invested until the end. The occasional heat helped, too. Overall, a delightful story. Would recommend.

The story is cute with just enough spice, and the narration is expertly done. Would definitely recommend to any lover of fairytale romance.

Fantastic fantasy!

I. Loved. This. Book. So much!! Intrigue, passion, dragon shifters... this book has it all! The heroine, Amelia, was one I could easily root for, with her villains being of the purest evil you can't help but wish for their demise. The romance was a natural and spicy addition to the story, that successfully underscored the main plot rather than detract from it. Although, I'm not sure if I'm solidly on the LI's team, as there was definitely another eligible character I'm tempted to ship! Bottom line is this was a fantastic adult fantasy that I will be sure to recommend to any and all fantasy fans in the future. Now, on to book 2...

Absolutely Fantastic!

Wow. I feel like this story was written entirely with my own preferences in mind. It was such a perfect fit. The heroine was strong, loyal, and extremely likeable. I loved her connection to family and her ragehound, Gus. Her journey to self-discovery was well executed and enjoyable to read. Her counterpart, the Shadow Heir, was the perfect amount of light to her dark, and his moody mutters and frequent teasing had me smirking throughout the story. Oh, Klaus. You truly are an idiot sometimes, aren't you?

I spent the entire day finishing this book, as I couldn't seem to keep from reading / listening during any spare moment of the day. The narrator had a lovely voice, and was very pleasant to listen to. Needless to say, I LOVED this book and look forward to reading / listening to lots more by Hayley Reese Chow!

Gritty, dark, and supremely imaginative

This was a pretty fun book. Although it was a bit longer than I usually prefer, the author managed to keep the story interesting throughout, filling the story with the most imaginative characters I've come across in some time. I particularly liked Kazuaki, with his gruff, all business exterior and loyal heart underneath. Not to mention his motley crew, who had no trouble lightening the mood when needed.

Overall, I'd say this is a great choice for anyone into deep stories and steampunk shenanigans.

Also, the narrator has an excellent reading voice. Very enjoyable to listen to.
