Historia
In 1938, a dead whale washes up on the shores of remote Welsh island. For Manod, who has spent her whole life on the island, it feels like both a portent of doom and a symbol of what may lie beyond the island's shores. A young woman living with her father and her sister (to whom she has reluctantly but devotedly become a mother following the death of their own mother years prior), Manod can't shake her welling desire to explore life beyond the beautiful yet blisteringly harsh islands that her hardscrabble family has called home for generations.

Loss of innocence and disillusionment beautifully told
Revisado: 08-07-24
I wouldn’t recommend any other format for this story because the narration brings the Welsh names and songs to life. Beautifully done. Though we could see what the future held for Manod before she did, the way the author wove her loss of innocence and the disillusionment she ultimately experienced from meeting and trusting outsiders with the practices and principles of the islanders was very engaging.

Historia
Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra. Which is how Daphne begins her new story.

Great banter
Revisado: 05-12-24
Loved this story especially the banter between characters! It made everything feel modern. Though most romcom reads end the same way, I enjoyed the journey.

Historia
In a shabby house, on a shabby street, in the new capital of Madrid, Luzia Cotado uses scraps of magic to get through her days of endless toil as a scullion. But when her scheming mistress discovers the lump of a servant cowering in the kitchen is actually hiding a talent for little miracles, she demands Luzia use those gifts to improve the family's social position.

Audiobook is the best way to enjoy this story
Revisado: 04-23-24
Great performance, great story! I don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much if I hadn’t listened to it.

Historia
Lucy Young is twenty-six and tired. Tired of fetching coffees for senior TV producers, sick of going on disastrous dates, and done with living in a damp flat with roommates who never buy toilet paper. After another disappointing date, Lucy stumbles upon a wishing machine. Pushing a coin into the slot, Lucy closes her eyes and wishes with all her might: Please, let me skip to the good part of my life.

Heartfelt warm characters with a side of time travel!
Revisado: 04-17-24
As a mid-30s mom at first I cringed at how Lucy’s life was going when she was young, and again when she suddenly woke up older and unaware of how she fit into her own life. But I grew to love the characters in this sorry so much. Everyone brings warmth with a bit of quirkiness, and the story will tug at your heartstrings! One of my favorite reads so far this year.

Historia
1985. Anita de Monte, a rising star in the art world, is found dead in New York City; her tragic death is the talk of the town. Until it isn’t. By 1998 Anita’s name has been all but forgotten—certainly by the time Raquel, a third-year art history student is preparing her final thesis. On College Hill, surrounded by privileged students whose futures are already paved out for them, Raquel feels like an outsider. Students of color, like her, are the minority there, and the pressure to work twice as hard for the same opportunities is no secret.

Incredible Narration
Revisado: 04-10-24
The emotion of the narrators really sold this story for me, absolutely loved it. I don’t believe I would have been able to immerse myself in the story if I had read the physical book.
