Historia
In this gripping new work, Meghan examines our country’s most intractable problems with clear-eyed honesty instead of exaggerated outrage. With passion, humor, and most importantly, nuance, she tries to make sense of the current landscape - from Donald Trump’s presidency to the #MeToo movement and beyond. In the process, she wades into the waters of identity politics and intersectionality, thinks deeply about the gender wage gap, and tests a theory about the divide between Gen Xers and millennials.

Not on point
Revisado: 08-22-24
Amidst the odes to her ex-husband and grumblings about the younger generation with their foul language, the author struggles to deliver a coherent critique of modern feminism. Personal anecdotes and rants are tangled with attempts at objectivity, leaving the reader to decipher the two. The author seems captivated by a narcissistic nostalgia, believing her generation of women were truly tough, enduring far more than the today’s self-proclaimed “badasses”.

Historia
From multiple New York Times best-selling author, neuroscientist, and "new atheist" Sam Harris, Waking Up is for the 30 percent of Americans who follow no religion, but who suspect that Jesus, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Rumi, and the other saints and sages of history could not have all been epileptics, schizophrenics, or frauds.

A mind blowing perspective
Revisado: 07-23-24
While listening a had a lot of “but what about…” moments and Sam addressed all of them in the text.
So if you’re looking for a rational approach to consciousness, mindfulness and spirituality it’s a great book for it.

Historia
As Dr. Marian explains, while you may well think you speak only one language, in fact your mind accommodates multiple codes of communication. Some people speak Spanish, some Mandarin. Some speak poetry, some are fluent in math. The human brain is built to use multiple languages, and using more languages opens doors to creativity, brain health, and cognitive control. Every new language we speak shapes how we extract and interpret information.

A good overview of the domain
Revisado: 06-17-24
Wouldn’t be very interesting if you’re already familiar with languages and linguistics to some extent. It mentions all the classic studies on multilingualism and eye tracking experiments. But doesn’t touch any recent research.
The part about AI and mathematics includes only general words and shows that the author doesn’t have sufficient knowledge of the subject.
All in all it’s not boring, gives an overview of the domain but nothing more.
