Historia
The human race is at War with the "Buggers," an insect-like alien race. As Earth prepares to defend itself from total destruction at the hands of an inscrutable enemy, all focus is on the development of military geniuses who can fight such a war, and win. The long distances of interstellar space have given hope to the defenders of Earth--they have time to train these future commanders up from childhood, forging them into an irresistible force in the high orbital facility called the Battle School.

Well worth the wait

I first read Ender's Game about 35 years ago. I'm always cautious when an author goes back to a series and writes another book. Rarely do they pull off a seamless addition. So that's why I never got around to reading Ender's Shadow. I still like Ender's Game more, but this was a wonderful addition to the story. Orson Scott Card is a master at his craft and his gifts are on full display in this book.

Historia
Once Second Prince of the mightiest kingdom in the known world, Othrun now leads the last survivors of his exiled people into an uncertain future far across the Shimmering Sea from their ancestral home, now lost beneath the waves. With his Single God binding his knights to chivalric oaths, intent on wiping out idolatry and pagan worship, they will have to carve out a new kingdom on this mysterious continent that has for centuries been ravaged by warlords competing for supremacy and mages channeling the mystic powers of the elements, and unite the continent under godly rule.

A solid beginning.

I love the premise and the writing is very strong. For me, there is too much exposition, slowing the story down in places. Still, the characters come off the page as real people and the plot is solid. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Historia
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another, this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance.

Alarmists will love this

If you believe like the author that chickens are just concentrated corn offerings and everything is a conspiracy, then he will be preaching to the choir. I only made it through 8 chapters though. Maybe he became a less of a fearmonger later, but I doubt it.
