Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

Historia
After their home burns down, fourteen-year-old Nick, his younger brother, and their father move into a ramshackle Victorian house they've inherited. When Nick opens the door to his attic room, he's hit in the head by a toaster. That's just the beginning of his weird experiences with the old junk stored up there. After getting rid of the odd antiques in a garage sale, Nick befriends some local kids - Mitch, Caitlin, and Vincent - and they discover that all of the objects have extraordinary properties.

Quirky
Revisado: 05-05-24
I found the this story hilarious and sad. The only thing I did not like all the way through was the narrator whose character voices got annoying off and on. The book had me laughing and shaking my head. It was great.

Linguistics, the study of language, has a reputation for being complex and inaccessible. But here's a secret: There's a lot that's quirky and intriguing about how human language works-and much of it is downright fun to learn about. But with so many potential avenues of exploration, it can often seem daunting to try to understand it. Where does one even start?

So very entertaining
Revisado: 10-17-22
This professor loves his subject. He loves to change pitch and tone. He plays around with words and it’s entertaining. Now, could I actually stand to be around him in person? Probably not 😂 because I’m an introvert. Small doses of this guy is just fine. I really enjoyed his lectures. He is uniquely gifted to present his subject.

So, who better to take on the foggy, crime-ridden streets and strict social mores of Victorian London than the iconic literary detective Sherlock Holmes? In Sherlock Holmes: Beyond the Elementary, you’ll investigate the history behind Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s whip-smart, charismatic detective.

Interesting but slightly disappointing
Revisado: 10-09-22
I’m not sure if the narrator is redundant or disorganized in his lectures. I know there a only a handful of stories to draw from but it seems that he should have organized it by story so as to avoid unnecessary repetition. It was interesting but was a bit disappointing.

Historia
At first glance, Josh Hanagarne seems an improbable librarian. He stands 6'7", competes in strongman contests, and was diagnosed in high school with Tourette's syndrome. But books are his first love - Josh's earliest memories involve fantastic adventures between the pages of Gulliver’s Travels and a passionate infatuation with Fern from Charlotte’s Web. Everything in Josh’s life - from his Mormon upbringing, to finally finding love, to learning to control his tics through lifting - circles back to a close connection with books.

What were the forces that led to one of history's most protracted and legendary periods of conflict? How did they affect the three great civilizations that participated in them? And, ultimately, why did they end and what did they accomplish? In these 36 lectures, you'll look at the "big picture" of the Crusades as an ongoing period of conflict involving Western Christendom (we would now call it Western Europe), the Byzantine Empire, and the Muslim world.

His filler words are so frequent
Revisado: 08-11-22
I would suggest that you listen to it and see if his ums and cracking voice bothers you. Sometimes it didn’t but most of the time it did bother me. He knows his stuff but his producers need to help him relax a bit I think and talk a little slower. I get being nervous but this is his 3rd course I’ve listened to and his fillers and nerves were getting on my nerves every time. I would love for them to redo these courses with him more relaxed. The content was great but the presentation needs work.
