Historia
When quiet Orrin and his extroverted best friend, Daniel, were transported to a strange RPG-based world, not much changed between them. Daniel became a hero of legend, while Orrin remained his unobtrusive shadow. Only when they faced a particularly lethal foe did Orrin step out of his comfort zone and display his true worth—with powers he didn't know he had. Of course, Daniel got all the glory, but Orrin doesn't mind. He's just happy they're both still alive.

Nothing new
Revisado: 09-05-24
I really looked forward to this edition, I pre-ordered it halfway through book 1. But once I received it, it took me forever to get through it. For a while I wondered if I somehow read the second volume before. No, in parts it was basically a revised version of the first. It wasn’t exciting and the ending was so predictable. There was no character growth at all. It’s like the characters made dumb decisions for the sake of continuing the plot. I’ve lost interest in this series.

A bicycle crashes into me one night, and the next thing I know, I’m a baby? Getting reincarnated in another world populated by humans, demi-humans, and mythical beasts is certainly not the turn I thought my life was going to take. I especially didn’t expect to be carried off by a wolf and given into the care of a one-armed former knight. Now, I’m trying to repay him by rebuilding the family inn and healing his arm with alchemy.

Light fluff novel which has its place
Revisado: 12-24-23
I like reading light novels but this one is on the mediocre side. A lot of inconsistencies that while is allowed in a web novel doesn’t fly in this medium. The author forgot that the father character’s wife and child left him before he told them he got a promotion. Then the biological daughter said it was because of him being a vice-captain that he ignored his family. There’s also a lot of passive story telling so you don’t really get attached to any character. All the supporting characters are 2D.
The narration misinterpretations also took me out of the story, especially with basically one irritating ‘hehehe’ for all the characters. Female in love didn’t sound like she was in love, she sounded mocking/condescending. Tbh, the loving couple didn’t sound in love at all but like they were making a big mistake getting together because of the narration choice. The narrator did an excellent job otherwise but those types of moments took away from the story. The male narrator did a decent job but he was too modern sounding. Like I envisioned him in a business suit as opposed to knight armor. He’s got a great voice but he’d have been better off playing a character that got isekaied.
It’s not terrible and if you love reading light novels but don’t have the time and are desperate to get your light novel fix, this will help… Basically, buy it on sale if the plot interests you.

I’m so glad there’s still two more!
Revisado: 09-21-23
I can’t get enough of Aeon! I only listen when doing chores or getting ready for bed but that only means my house is getting more organized! Love this book and the narrator! He still tends to have character voice bleeds but he really makes the story come alive so it doesn’t distract too much. Just only a couple times when a girl character suddenly had Aeon’s voice. But the story telling is so immersive that you can quickly disregard the little bumps like that. The only negative thing I can say isn’t really about the story but listening devices. If you have an older Amazon Echo, you won’t be able to listen to a lot of the chapters without it responding to the recording. Every time the character Alexis was mentioned, it would stop the recording. Sometimes it would resume after no commands were issued but sometimes it would start playing unrequested music or commands or just stop altogether. I have the old Echo in my room but the newer version in the living room played the audiobook just fine.

Love how exciting they made the stationary tree’s life. The narrator didn’t seem to fit at first but he improved and did an awesome job creating a movie in my mind. The only issues I had were hearing a door closing (disconcerting when you’re by yourself) and stomach noises (which had me grabbing my stomach to silence it)… and sometimes his character voices bled a little which had me pausing to figure out who was speaking but most of the time he was on point and those moments didn’t throw me out of the book. I look forward to hearing him narrate book 2.

The science version of Reddit
Revisado: 06-02-22
I don’t usually read non-fiction books of this type… or at least I didn’t but I will be now. I absolutely loved it and found the lives of scientists just as fascinating as their findings! I stopped the book multiple times to find out what happened to the scientists afterwards. Like the scientist who went on a horrendous, failure of an expedition where setbacks kept him years longer than anticipated only to go home and find he’d long been declared dead and his home and possessions plundered.
There are so many scientists that most get a scant few lines but sometimes they were enough to pique my interest and send me online. Same with the some of the historical findings that I never cared about before.
I laughed and railed throughout the book and found both story and narrator to be top notch. The last chapter was especially emotional.
I’ve come away feeling smarter and with so much gratitude for all those poor scientists who dedicated their lives to science but went unacknowledged and died seeming failures.

Just a No… possible plot spoiler ahead
Revisado: 04-20-22
I found the pairing nausea inducing. I’m trying to keep things vague but I may not do a good job so be forewarned.
When a betrayal runs deep, then “romantic scenes” just arouse my disgust. Basically a damsel love-mentality disguised as a strong, genetically enhanced heroine. It was hard trying to get past the ending. Gave up with 35 minutes left. There are love conquers all books that I sometimes am in the mood to read but when I feel like it’s been disguised as something else it’s too hard to choke down. The author did try to make a scenario where it was plausible to “forgive” but, for me, miscommunications leading to huge misunderstandings are forgivable, consciously choosing betrayal over and over again. That’s a huge and hard nope. The narrator was fantastic and had me listening for a lot longer than I would have tolerated reading it myself but I just couldn’t take the romantic scenes any longer.

Historia
The Science of Getting Rich is the classic guide to creating wealth through the Law of Attraction. First published in 1910, 100 years later it inspired Rhonda Byrne's best-selling book and movie, The Secret. According to Wallace D. Wattles, "There is a science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches; once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man, he will get rich with mathematical certainty."

I will admit that after the first few chapters made me think this book was a bunch of insubstantial malarkey but the narrator made me stick it out. Then I realized it’s not science but mindset. This has very forward thinking. I’ll be listening to it again!

He survived, but instead of being on Earth, he now appeared to be in a different world, with other people who had passed a similarly deadly test. Some made it through by using force, some by using their cunning.... Everyone has their own story, but they all have one thing in common - there are no good people among them.

Too convoluted for me
Revisado: 04-30-20
It might be a spoiler review so be warned...
I liked the book summary and the plot sounded interesting. Since I love the fantasy genre and especially litrpg, I figured it was right up my ally. Unfortunately it turned out to be more of a chore to listen to.
except for a couple of cannon fodder they all gain rare/immense powers (and master its usage) easier and faster than I gain weight during the holidays... and that’s saying something. It just got too convoluted, like a criminal version of a daytime soap. I listened to the whole thing because I’m sick and got nothing else to do other than lying in the couch listening via Alexa and too tired to get up and get my phone to find a different book. It still took me nearly a week to finish it since I’d play it when I got tired of Alexa playing music.

Definitely young adult but...
Revisado: 02-12-20
It’s odd that the author has a lot of twenty and thirty year olds acting like teenagers. (At one point I could’ve sworn they described a thirty-something year old as young which I thought most young adults would disagree with) And although the main character is supposed to be young, she often has the temperament/behavior/thought processes of a small child instead of a teenager. If not for those odd discrepancies that had me wondering if the author changed her target audience a few times, I would have rated the story higher but things like that were too distracting.
The narrator’s mispronunciations of a lot of words were also very distracting. The simple words weren’t distracting (“feel/fell”; “tail/tell”) but some were astounding (or at least I only heard of one way to pronounce the word “similarly”. The word charcoal was also pronounced “char-a-coal” but perhaps that’s what it was called in that world). Her attempts at character differentiation were also distracting as I tried to figure out who was who occasionally. Either I adapted or she got better with time as far as characters went... however her odd pronunciations did not abate. They happened randomly and just enough to kick you out of the story as you pondered how and why.
Neither the book nor the narrator are as nearly as bad as I seem to make them out to be it’s just that both should be on another level of good of it weren’t for minor yet enough-to-kick-me-out-of-the-story-and wonder-about-the-creator type of things that happened throughout the book.

Every second is fascinating. Thought I’d listen to a bit of it on my drive home but I kept saying just five more minutes until it ended. I was sitting on my couch not doing anything else. Now my chore list is backed up but I still needed to rave about it through writing a review. Although I was lucky enough to get it as a free title for January’s offering, it’s definitely worth a credit to buy!
