Historia
From the 1920s to 1950, Georgia Tann ran a black-market baby business at the Tennessee Children’s Home Society in Memphis. The publication of Lisa Wingate’s novel Before We Were Yours brought new awareness of Tann’s lucrative career in child trafficking. Adoptees who knew little about their pasts gained insight into the startling facts behind their family histories. Encouraged by their contact with Wingate and award-winning journalist Judy Christie, who documented the stories of 15 adoptees in this book, many determined Tann survivors set out to trace their roots.

Strength of Adoptees from the TCHS Horror
Revisado: 01-27-25
This is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I read Before and After and knew that this was going to be as great if not better. It’s unfathomable how anyone can do what Georgia Tam (sp?) had done to these innocent children. This was a great story and Lisa and Judy did a remarkable job of putting this together. My Mom was adopted and I have been working on finding her birth parents and any other family members but it’s not easy. She was not part of TCHS, of that I am thankful, but this story makes me want to go deeper than what I have found so far.

A Note Yet Unsung
Revisado: 02-21-23
This was brilliant! A masterpiece in writing that captures your heart. I very much enjoy Tamera’s stories and this one is no exception! Out of the three Belmont series books, this by far my favorite. I felt as if I was part of the family and was crying and laughing with them. I played flute in an orchestra in high school so maybe I was more partial because of it but either way it was very moving. I don’t normally read books more than once but this one I could. Linda Stephens was excellent!

I love the Cavendon series. The narrator was very good. I felt like I was a part of the story. I’m thankful that I wasn’t around during the war with Germany.

I enjoy reading Lynn Austin’s books. This was the third book in the Candle in the Darkness series. The narration was excellent and the story made you feel so angry towards the white slave owners, especially one girl in particular. One slave finally learned a lesson in the end. I like how Lynn adds scripture to her stories throughout the story to add more meaning.

I loved this story. It was very well written. This is a story that will pull at your heart strings and won’t let go until the end. I especially liked the author’s note at the end in which she explained the events and people. I would recommend this to anyone interested in historical fiction with non-fictional themes. The three women who narrated were great!
