Historia
She's just watching, thinking about it again, when a big flash car pulls up outside. No one gets out. Then the doors of the bar open and people appear. Two men and a youngish woman, and one of the men has a hold on the woman's arm. It looks as if they're having words. Then this all happens quickly—they push the woman towards the car, one of the back doors opens, and they manhandle her inside. Sarah hears a muffled shout from the woman and the car pulls away. It's all over in a few seconds.

Grainger and Gildart combine once again for a stellar experience for this listener. Characters evolve and our favorites capture our attention, interest, and a little sadness. Bravo.

Historia
Jo told him the phone call had been about a woman who wanted to have her husband declared dead. Smith thought for a moment and then said, 'Hmm. There must be a few million women in this country who feel like that. I take it her husband's been missing for a while and she's decided it's time to move on. In the absence of a body, which is always a nuisance, she wants Diver and Diver to confirm there's no proof he's alive. And I've told Jason a dozen times I'm not getting involved in anything matrimonial. I have enough trouble sorting out my own relationships.'

Besides loving all Peter Grainger's books-I can't imagine them without Gildart Jackson's superb narration. The pair of them make every one of Grainger's books first rate.
Grainger's new life for retired DC works beautifully and we listeners are the richer for it.

Historia
Two weeks of rest and recuperation - that's what the doctor ordered. Detective Sergeant DC Smith could listen to some music, make some of his own, and maybe even catch up on his reading; he is almost looking forward to it. And then there is a knock on the door. It's only his next-door neighbor, but it is the beginning of a sequence of events that will bring him face to face with some of the darkest episodes and the most dangerous people from his own past.

“From exactly midnight until daybreak, the Namiya General Store advice box will be reopening for one night only.” When three delinquents hole up in an abandoned general store after their most recent robbery, to their great surprise, a letter drops through the mail slot in the store’s shutter. This seemingly simple request for advice sets the trio on a journey of discovery as, over the course of a single night, they step into the role of the kindhearted former shopkeeper who devoted his waning years to offering thoughtful counsel to his correspondents.

Surprises all the way. I was hooked quickly. Some of the translations into English were rude-for want of a better word-but small price to pay for this gem. Quirky and original. I loved it.

When Poppy Perkins decides to talk back to a customer who thinks it’s okay to scream at her over donuts, Poppy knows she’s going to get fired. Historia
Mark Randall lay dead in a field near Lowacre long before Smith had done what he had to do in Belfast. By the time he went back to work, the investigation was well underway. "It's not my case," he says more than once, and he really doesn't need it to be; he has enough to think about as it is. But going around the Norfolk countryside dotting the i's and crossing the t's, speaking to the local farmers and the Brothers of St. Francis from Abbeyfields, Smith begins to suspect that the investigation might be heading in entirely the wrong direction.

Just Read This Book. You'll thank me later
Revisado: 05-06-18
Blew me away. The book, writing, narration, characters. Amazing. You know quickly into the story that the main character is a PTSD survivor trying to navigate her way in the world. The narrator brilliantly lends humanity to each character and villainy to the Mother. Honeyman crafts the book superbly, and every time I picked up my earbuds I couldn't wait to reconnect to Eleanor, Raymond and the host of family, friends, and colleagues who populate Eleanor's life. Honeyman takes us into Eleanor's mind, which is an unusual one, and I couldn't help but feel empathy and tenderness for her. With humor sprinkled throughout, Honeyman reveals how Eleanor experiences generosity, society, and ultimately her own feelings. Narrator McCarron is dazzling.

Surprisingly good!
Revisado: 05-05-18
I bought this book on a whim-maybe it was from one of Audible's sales-and was surprised with how much I liked it. The narrator was excellent. Andrews has a good voice, both for the main character as well as for the many other voices he had to adapt for characters both male and female. The story was easy and totally kept my attention. No violence or action but rather more character development and movement through situations. There were enough twists throughout to make it fun. Goldman is a writer I'm going to keep my eye on.
