Lovely story!
Revisado: 03-29-18
I am so happy to hear Jenny Sterlin read Laurie King’s short story about Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes. I have loved this series for sometime now and enjoyed hearing Jenny Sterlin’s voice reading a very loved series. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Thank you to both ladies for writing and reading such delightful literature!

The mystery was perfectly written, had a delightful flow, and the narrator was so charming to listen to. A true sample of excellent British writing and perfect storytelling. Well done, Ms. South and Mr. Froomkin!!

Historia
Here at Audible, we know just how much of an impact a voice can have on a story - taking simple words and filling them with elation, wonderment, tragedy, or pure satisfaction. We rely on our narrators every day to bring our favorite stories and characters to life - to introduce us to new authors and genres, or even to a new (perhaps longer) commute. And though our narrators are the best story tellers in the business, it's usually someone else's that they're telling.

Wonderful personal stories!

What a clever idea - to have the voices of beloved narrators tell some of their own stories of traditions. Stories poignant, funny, thoughtful, heartwarming, sobering. Thank you, Audible, for a lovely early Christmas present. It's inspirational!

Historia
Seven weeks ago, a young American woman, Amanda Pym, faced down hijackers on board a flight to the Middle East and saved the lives of more than two hundred passengers. In a blaze of celebrity, she stepped off the plane in Damascus and was whisked away in a waiting car. Since then, NOTHING. The CIA believes she was kidnapped and murdered. Whose plans has the apparently ordinary young woman interfered with? The machinations of the mukhabarat, Syria's dreaded police?

Not Mrs. Pollifax!
Revisado: 09-25-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I'm sorry, but I would not recommend this rendition of the book to a friend. The entire series of Mrs. Pollifax has been read by another narrator, and the very last book is read by an entirely new, unfamiliar voice and it is distressing. It's like someone tore out the last chapter of a book. Please Ms. Rosenblat, come back and finish the last story!!!!
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I could not tell you, as I could not get past the new, unfamiliar narrator's voice to notice the storyline.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Sharon Williams?
BARBARA ROSENBLAT. Please!!!!!!!!
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I don't know, as I couldn't finish the book. All of the other Dorothy Gillman books about Mrs. Pollifax, as read by Barbara Rosenblat are perfect for the screen! I could see the events unfold before my eyes as Ms. Gillman is a superb storyteller!!!
Any additional comments?
Oh, if only Ms. Rosenblat could come back and read the last book in the series, it would feel perfect and I could just hug the series to my heart. I love all the Mrs. Pollifax stories and I listened to the entire series without interruption, until the very last book. I mean NO disrespect to Ms. Williams as she is a great narrator, and had she been the narrator from the beginning, I would want her to finish the stories. It's just disconcerting to press "play" on the last delightful book and hear a different person trying to "be" Mrs. Pollifax. I had come to know and love her inflections, her voice quality, her intonation, and when a different Mrs. Pollifax came upon on my mental screen, I turned it off and could not finish the book. I'm sorry.

Another lovely read
Revisado: 04-09-16
Dorothy Gillman continues to impress with her stories of Mrs. Pollifax. And Barbara Rosenblat's rendition of each character is superb. Her linguistic talent is amazing. One can hear each character speak and know who is speaking before the story confirms it just by Barbara's focus on tone, dialect, pitch, resonance. I won't take a trip without Mrs. Pollifax helping while away the miles!!
