Historia

Laurie did it again
Revisado: 09-21-21
I was not sure about this new series, as I generally don't like sequels....but I have been pleasantly surprised. Characters are very entertaining, with a much plausible and appealing personalities than in the other books and the plot and style is fun, fast and very entertaining, like in the best books of the early Abby Cooper series.
Thank you Victoria.
For those who haven't read other books by Laurie.....you are up for a fun reading....enjoy!!!

Funny down to earth approach to meditation
Revisado: 01-26-15
Dan Harris makes a very entertaining and down to earth exposition of his travel into the now so popular culture of self-help, search for inner peace, mindfulness, spirituality, meditation, enlightment, etc.
I loved it. It relaxes me to know I'm not the only one struggling there.

Between 1993 and 2000, a series of groundbreaking experiments revealed dramatic evidence of a web of energy that connects everything in our lives and our world - the Divine Matrix. From the healing of our bodies, to the success of our careers, relationships, and the peace between nations, this new evidence demonstrates that we each hold the power to speak directly to the force that links all of creation.

Down to Earth but too detailed
Revisado: 04-23-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The initial chapters explain the method, and although they are common sense, nothing revolutionary, it is well explained and good to be reminded of. But the following chapters are really boring since it goes too deep into details about what he is learning, and unless you are interested in the same issues....like for instance playing the ukelele, it is just plain tedious. Couldn't keep my attention at all.
Would you recommend The First 20 Hours to your friends? Why or why not?
No. Only worthwhile the few first chapters.

The Art of Procrastination

Historia
John Perry’s insights and laugh-out-loud humor bring to mind Thurber, Wodehouse, and Harry Frankfurt’s On Bullshit. This charming and accessible audio educates, entertains, and illuminates a universal subject. Procrastinators will be relieved to learn that you can actually accomplish quite a lot while procrastinating. In fact, the book itself is the result of Perry avoiding grading papers, refereeing academic proposals, and reviewing dissertation drafts. It also has a practical side, offering up advice that listeners can put to use.

Joking about procrastination
Revisado: 02-15-14
What did you like best about The Art of Procrastination? What did you like least?
I love the way Brian Holsopple reads the book. Very natural and adequate to the text.
If you are looking for a way to prove procrastination is not such a big deal, this is the book for you. But if you are interested in finding the roots, definition and possible tools to overcome a habit that can become truly destructive and make life really miserable, then don't choose this one.

Historia
Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

SELF-KINDNESS
Revisado: 02-15-14
Would you listen to The Gifts of Imperfection again? Why?
I think this is one of those books that is good to listen regularly in order to absorb and learn correctly.
Any additional comments?
This is the literary, academic-like version of The Power of Vulnerability.
The issues she studies might not be popular, but I think her studies and conclusions are extremely important to understand our own fears and resources. Very powerful messages from my point of view. And Rene's sense of humor and insight of every day life and people is simply infectious. I love her and her work.

Historia
On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

FUN WITTY SPIRITUAL WISDOM
Revisado: 01-13-14
What made the experience of listening to The Power of Vulnerability the most enjoyable?
Brené is a very funny speaker even when she is talking about very serious, sometimes painful issues.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Power of Vulnerability?
Her way of speaking, how funny she is when explaining real experiences, which makes difficult topics approachable and easy to understand.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Power of Vulnerability?
I think I am going to practise more admitting my vulnerabilities instead of hiding behind my cool fasade. She opened my eyes to many of my default reactions which eventhough they feel safe, take me away from my own inner peace and joy.
Any additional comments?
As all Brené Brown's books, it is one of the favourites in my library and I certainly recomend it to anyone who is truly into understanding human nature and how to learn to love and be loved.

Based on seven years of ground-breaking research and hundreds of interviews, I Thought It Was Just Me shines a long-overdue light on an important truth: Our imperfections are what connect us to each other and to our humanity. Our vulnerabilities are not weaknesses; they are powerful reminders to keep our hearts and minds open to the reality that we're all in this together.

THOUGHT - PROVOKING AND LIBERATING
Revisado: 12-02-13
Where does I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t) rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
It is one of the books that has impressed me most lately. I enjoy the fact that helps you look at things in a different way, it makes you reconsider some of your own opinions and behaviours. When I read it, I saw so many little ways in which I could be a better person, more approachable, and certainly a lot more understanding with myself.Brené not only explains the theory and science behind the topic, she is also very good at including real life stories that most of us relate to. Her approach is very kind, understanding and practical. I liked it very much.A book everyone should read at least once in a lifetime.

Time management for Procrastinators
Revisado: 06-15-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, it is simple and down to earth. As a basic approach to the problem is quite good.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Disappointment. Easy to read, good as a first approach to the subject, good tips on how to control chaos, but it only tackles the surface of the problem. At the end, it is another set of Time Management advises, but as such, it is very enjoyable and practical.
Any additional comments?
The problem is that procrastinator's problem is not what to do when they get in action, the problem is what prevents them from getting in action.
