A true classic
Revisado: 02-09-25
A difficult painful book that was amazing detailed and if anything showing the experience of being a slave in the most raw form about what it was like to live like a slave and it's true condition from the eyes of one who had survived the true experience in all it's contradictions and truths about this experience.

A rendition, and understanding the genius
Revisado: 12-25-24
What I really liked was how this utterly humanized Berthoven, his problems, incredibly messed up childhood, how he got to where he was made the choices he did in life to the very end, and yes even dealing with the fact that honestly he sounds like a nightmare to live with and probably would have not been nearly as tolerated or indulged or celebrated if probably most of it didn't end up in music, his emotionality, his anger snd his musical talent eas both a beneficiary and probably the reason and outlet Beethoven kept creating. It showed how talented he was, insanely so, even after he became deaf and blind, but also how flaws.

Governments today in both Europe and the United States have succeeded in casting government spending as reckless wastefulness that has made the economy worse. In contrast, they have advanced a policy of draconian budget cuts - austerity - to solve the financial crisis. We are told that we have all lived beyond our means and now need to tighten our belts. This view conveniently forgets where all that debt came from. Not from an orgy of government spending, but as the direct result of bailing out, recapitalizing, and adding liquidity to the broken banking system.

Excellent Book
Revisado: 11-23-24
An excellent interesting book about austierity, it's history how we got here today almost sixteen years since the 2008 and how austerity simony increased and empower extreme movements rather than decreasing it that polarization today has more to do with the economic environment and lack of jobs and cutbacks and assessing austierity in many forms an excellent book.

Historia
The life of Emperor Charles V (1500-1558), ruler of Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and much of Italy and Central and South America, has long intrigued biographers. But the elusive nature of the man (despite an abundance of documentation), his relentless travel and the control of his own image, together with the complexity of governing the world's first transatlantic empire, complicate the task.

An excellent biography covering what I always considered the everyman of Renaissance Europe and yet ruled the biggest and most powerful empire in a sort of irony and how his main issues are to do with entitlement and ruling an impossible empire by bad large. And of course his issues with entitlement comes with his massive inheritance too.

Fantasy, love and an exuberant celebration of English life and literature, Orlando is a uniquely entertaining story. Originally conceived by Virginia Woolf as a playful tribute to the family of her friend and lover, Vita Sackville-West, Orlando's central character, a fictional embodiment of Sackville-West, changes sex from a man to a woman and lives throughout the centuries, whilst meeting historical figures of English literature.

A good book may have the power to change the way we see the world, but a great book actually becomes part of our daily consciousness, pervading our thinking to the point that we take it for granted, and we forget how provocative and challenging its ideas once were - and still are. The Structure of Scientific Revolutions is that kind of book.

Historia
In 10 lectures, award-winning historian Patrick N. Allitt transports listeners to England in the 1840s and 1850s. During those two decades, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, became one of the most influential people in the country and remains a figure of fascination even today. In fact, the British royal family as we know it wouldn't exist without the private and public actions of this detached, impartial, and upright political figure.

Historia
Concluding his acclaimed series on the Eastern Front in World War I, Prit Buttar comprehensively details not only these climactic events, but also the "successor wars" that raged long after the armistice of 1918. New states rose from the ashes of empire and war raged as German forces sought to keep them under the aegis of the Fatherland. These unresolved tensions between the former Great Powers and the new states would ultimately lead to the rise of Hitler and a new, terrible world war only two decades later.
