Historia
A mother and her teenage daughter are found murdered in a remote coastal home, one defiled by multiple stab wounds and the other posed like Sleeping Beauty waiting for her prince. Joe O'Loughlin is drawn into the investigation when a former student, trading on Joe's reputation by calling himself "the Mindhunter", jeopardizes the police inquiry by leaking details to the media and stirring up public anger.

A Thriller...it really is
Revisado: 03-05-21
I’ve listened to many books but seldom write a review. I decided to write a short review about Close Your Eyes because it was so very well written. Of course many books are well written, but I found this book kept my attention much more than most of the so called suspenseful mystery novels. My only small complaint would be with the narration, there were times when I wasn’t sure who was speaking, otherwise the performance was excellent. Closer Your Eyes starts out suspenseful and stays that way until the last page. I won’t forget this book for a long time,...especially the unexpected ending.

Historia
Ordered to hold an abandoned army post, John Dunbar found himself alone, beyond the edge of civilization. Thievery and survival soon forced him into the Indian camp, where he began a dangerous adventure that changed his life forever. Set in 1863, the novel follows Lieutenant John Dunbar on a magical journey from the ravages of the Civil War to the far reaches of the imperiled American frontier, a frontier he naively wants to see "before it is gone".

Camelot on the Plains
Revisado: 11-01-20
This is a enjoyable audible novel. It was also a good movie. It’s a fable of the perfect people, living the perfect life in the perfect place...i.e., Camelot. The author describes the Cheyenne Indian people as living in complete harmony with themselves and nature while depicting the white man as the direct opposite. We can assume the Cheyenne were very respectful of each other because they lived in small groups. Living in low density area vs high density, small town vs big city, Wyoming vs NYC, you get the point. I wish the author had been a little less harsh toward his general description of the white man, I’m somewhat certain there must have been at least one unpleasant Cheyenne Indian. Over all, wonderful story.

Great Epilogue
Revisado: 10-26-20
I agree with most of the three-star reviews. As an admirer of TR, i managed to stay with this story for the full 12 hours, but it’s not a very interesting story. Every insect and plant is described in excruciating detail. It’s like the author doesn’t realize that’s there’s a National Geographic TV channel where all the plants, bugs and wildlife of the River are contained in an hour long episode. The best part of the book is the Epilogue and because it comes at the end, I believe it influences the listener to be generous with the review.

Historia
The final novel of one of America’s most beloved writers - a tale of degeneration, corruption, and spiritual crisis. A Penguin Classic In awarding John Steinbeck the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Nobel committee stated that with The Winter of Our Discontent, he had “resumed his position as an independent expounder of the truth, with an unbiased instinct for what is genuinely American". Ethan Allen Hawley, the protagonist of Steinbeck’s last novel, works as a clerk in a grocery store that his family once owned.

Revisado: 10-10-20
The last several books I’ve chosen were not worth my time. I was discouraged, so I thought, what the heck, I’ll try Steinbeck. Listening to this story was the best 10 hours and 22 minutes I had in some time. It’s the kind of story that encourages me to search for another good story. Not everyone will agree with my opinion and that’s good.

Not about surviving the elements
Revisado: 08-10-20
I have read two of Jeffrey Archer’s novels and given them both five stars. I don’t deny he is a great author, however this book was a disappointment. This book is not so much a novel, but a biography of George Mallory. Very little of the book takes place climbing a mountain, which was what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear a story about surviving the elements, which this book is not.

I almost gave up on this book. The first half of story takes too long to tell, at least 2-3 hours too long. The second half of the story is well worth enduring the first half. Interesting and unpredictable.

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

A Story of Man’s Endurance

The ship was named Endurance, and it was truly a great ship built for endurance, but the men who sailed her showed the true meaning of Endurance. Their story could not have been written better. The book could not have been narrated better.

Historia
Mountain man and fur trader Jedediah Smith casts a heroic shadow. He was the first Anglo-American to travel overland to California via the Southwest, and he roamed through more of the West than anyone else of his era. His adventures quickly became the stuff of legend. Using new information and sifting fact from folklore, Barton H. Barbour now offers a fresh look at this dynamic figure.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-28-19
I assume there is just not significant information about the life of Jedediah Smith to fill a book because the account of his life is only a small portion of the book. Most of the book I found uninteresting and the narration did not help.

It began interesting enough, but about halfway through, it sorta died. Unlike a good story which a reader doesn’t want to end, I was actually wanting The Long Ships to end.
