Historia
Stephen Oakwood has emerged victorious against the schemes of his aristocratic family. Now he finally has the opportunity to do what he’s been wanting to do for a long time: track down his father. But doing so won’t be easy. Stephen’s not so isolated any more, but the contacts he’s making in the magical world—everyone from the corporation he works for to the mother he’s just beginning to reconnect with—all have agendas of their own. And now a new group is emerging from the shadows, calling themselves the Winged.

Meh
Revisado: 04-04-25
Too much introspection and barely anything actually happens and then to make matters worse it ends on a cliffhanger. I feel like I got half a book and half I got was a lot of verbose nothing that didn’t move the story forward at all.

Worse version of the Time Machine
Revisado: 11-01-24
They never resolved the obvious time-loop problem regarding the bail, despite mentioning it repeatedly throughout the book so I felt left hanging for a satisfactory answer to that question. In many ways, this is a modern version of the HG Wells classic, but worse.

Historia
More even than space travel, the Stileman Process has altered 21st-century life. The most complex of medical miracles, it ensures that every 10 years or so, the ailing aging body can be restored to youthful vigour and health. There's a catch, of course: the cost. Every 10 years or so, you have to come up with £1,000,000 minimum to repeat the procedure or die. For Dallas Barr, one of the oldest men on earth, it's that time again. While casting around desperately for his next essential £1,000,000, he meets Maria, a woman from a previous life, and makes two major discoveries.

Interesting world, meh story
Revisado: 11-21-23
It started with a great idea: limiting wealth distribution by making it a resource to fund immorality. Then it shoehorned a conspiracy into it with a lot of lucky coincidences that just happened to be exactly what was needed at the time. There just wasn’t a great story here. There are no wow moments and the ending is pretty abrupt. The narrator did a good job though and I’d listen to books narrated by him again.

Historia
Stephen Oakwood is a young man on the edge of this hidden world. He has talent and potential, but turning that potential into magical power takes money, opportunity, and training. All Stephen has is a minimum wage job and a cat. But when a chance encounter with a member of House Ashford gets him noticed by the wrong people, Stephen is thrown in the deep end. For centuries, the vast corporations and aristocratic Houses of the magical world have grown impossibly rich and influential by hoarding their knowledge.

A good start
Revisado: 10-25-23
It’s a good start to a new series. It leaves a lot of questions unanswered and doesn’t really come to a great conclusion. The conflicts in the book are not satisfactorily resolved. The narration didn’t jive with me. He describes his accent as Posh but he certainly doesn’t sound that way to me.

Historia
Mattie and Brewster are normal, typical 16-year-old twins who live with their normal, boring parents: Martin and Gwen Banks. Normal and boring, that is, until the day their father's best friend shows up at their house - dressed in what appears to be a bathrobe. The next thing Mattie and Brewster know, their parents are frozen like human statues in their living room, the guy in the bathrobe has vanished, and they need to find answers - fast.

Better than the previous book
Revisado: 09-06-23
While better than the previous book (which is a pretty low bar), it seems that recycling previous plot ideas is all the author has left in him.

Awful narration
Revisado: 03-28-23
The narrator apparently couldn’t be bothered to find out how to pronounce various words in the series, so decided to just do it badly (magocracy, irionite, Falas, etc.) The voice changes for various characters were not well done either. By itself it was a fun little side story with characters deserving of some more fleshing out, but you’re better off just reading this one.

Nonsense (Spoiler Warning)
Revisado: 08-31-21
Warning! Spoilers! The story makes little sense and reads more like a poor romance novel than any other genre. The main character’s teacher has his heart stolen for absolutely no reason that makes a lick of sense. The apprentice then goes to retrieve it from the big bad but wait! Just as the big bad is going to kill her she gets sucked into the heart by a spell cast by the big bad exposing her teacher’s hopes and dreams and other bullshit. She then escapes and pulls off a deus ex machina by some magic that we’ve been told repeatedly that paper magicians can’t do. And then the main character flies home, puts the stolen heart back in and saves the day and then they live happily ever after.
I lost brain cells reading this drivel.

If she jumps back in time and pulls the wrong key - one that might tip off the Cyrists to her strategy - her whole plan could come crashing down, jeopardizing the future of millions of innocent people. Kate’s only ally is Kiernan, who also carries the time-traveling gene.

Spoilers
Revisado: 12-06-18
Wonderfully narrated, Kate brings Kate to life and makes her quite believable, however the time travel story isn’t well thought through at all. The entire plot could be solved in 5 minutes if they’d just time travel to where Saul landed after his escape from Chronos and kill him then. Alternatively, time travel and save Prudence before she makes her first jump although that would have messier consequences for the main characters. It’s infuriating that not only do they not think of those things but I have to listen about Kate’s one dimensional boy toy like he’s so amazing. He’s flat, uninteresting, and can’t share in a big part of her life (can’t time travel). The teenage drama over him made me roll my eyes so hard I could see the inside of my skull.
