There really wasn't resolution for the main drama of the plot. Sorry, but if I had the strong feelings of the main character, I wouldn't just fall into bed with the guy I felt was responsible. It just didn't seem believable. I like many of Linda Howard's books, but this one was not her best.

Not nearly as dry as one might expect from a chronicle written by a Maester of the Citadel. Interesting background to the other books.

the story premise is intriguing, but it's written present tense, so it feels like you're listening to stage directions instead of a story.

It was an ok story. I thought to myself several times that Ms Pillow needed to give the thesaurus a rest.

I had a tough time getting into this one. The narration seemed to have an uneven rhythm, lots of long pauses, even with the speed turned up.. The story itself seemed bogged down with irrelevant details. The heroine spent the majority of the book being pushed around by everyone. There wasn't a satisfying explanation for why she wanted to stay at a job she supposedly had been basically blackmailed into. Overall, left me feeling "meh".

I really loved this series when it first came out. The last several books have definitely not been up to Ms Banks' previous standards. There's so much angst and repetition. Really, how many times do we have to hear how badly Zoe's been treated in one conversation? There's 20 minutes of angst-ridden inner dialogue to two minutes of plot. It's like it wasn't written by the same author. And every description is like reading a thesaurus entry. Get to the point already! I'll finish the series just because I want to see how Rusty and Sean turn out, but if I had started the series with this book, I wouldn't have picked up the others.

I really loved this series when it first came out. The last several books have definitely not been up to Ms. Banks' previous standards. I know she's had some health issues, so maybe she's using a ghost writer. Whatever the reason, the books are torture to get through. Seriously, there's 10 minutes of angst-ridden inner dialogue to two minutes of plot. Every description is like reading a thesaurus entry. Just get on with the story already, please!

I love the KGI series, but this one was just not up to par. It read more like a teenage/Twilight story than Ms Banks' usual strong storytelling. I know she's had some health issues, so I can't help but wonder if she used a ghost writer or something.
The basic storyline was good, it had potential: relief worker survives terrorist attack, and is hunted by terrorist group. I was looking forward to reading Hancock's story. Unfortunately, the storyline isn't fleshed out very well, and the majority of the book is focused on the *very* repetitive internal monologues of the two main characters. And when I say "repetitive", I mean it's to the point where I thought I was listening to the same chapter over and over and over again. The narration was choppy - lots of long pauses, even at 1.25x. Did I mention the over the top angst? Someone set the dial to the daytime soap opera setting, and forgot to turn it back down. Really, taking out bad guys is KGI's bread and butter. Knowing all the players is Resnick's forte. So why do we need to be told again and again and again and.... (ad nauseum) how bad the bad guys are, and that what they'll do to our heroine is "worse than you can imagine"? Are we truly expected to believe that KGI and Resnick don't already know this? *Sigh!* I'll keep it just to have the complete series, but it definitely won't be on my re-read/re-listen list. Once was almost more than I could bear.

I enjoyed the story. It's a light-hearted space romance. But the narration just didn't match. There were places where the narrator seemed to relax and follow the flow, but most of the time it was like listening to a bored tour guide.
