Historia
Guido Brunetti faces a heinous crime committed outside his jurisdiction. He is drawn in innocently enough: two young American women have been badly injured in a boating accident, joyriding in the Laguna with two young Italians. However, Brunetti's curiosity is aroused by the behavior of the young men, who abandoned the victims after taking them to the hospital. If the injuries were the result of an accident, why did they want to avoid association with it?

Historia
Deborah and Simon St. James have taken a holiday in the winter landscape of Lancastershire, hoping to heal the growing rift in their marriage. But in the barren countryside awaits bleak news: The vicar of Wimslough, the man they had come to see, is dead - a victim of accidental poisoning. Unsatisfied with the inquest ruling and unsettled by the close association between the investigating constable and the woman who served the deadly meal, Simon calls in his old friend Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley. Together they uncover dark, complex relationships in this rural village.

Too much explicit sex.
Revisado: 06-08-19
None of the other books had this kind of explicit language. I really love Linley and the Sgt. but this book really was a shocker. The story was convoluted and hard to follow. I hope the rest are NOT like this one.

Set in the London of the 1660s and of the early 21st century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city, and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history. As the novel opens, Helen has been summoned by a former student to view a cache of 17th-century Jewish documents newly discovered in his home during a renovation.

One of the best books i have enjoyed for some time.
Revisado: 03-07-18
The language and imagination of the author was incredible. The history was so very interesting. This novel is not for the escapist reader because the philosophy and “thinking” are very deep. I love how the story wove the character’s lives into a satisfying conclusion. It was a great 17 hours listening. I am lucky to be able to listen continuously over a couple of days as i paint. Being retired, I could lose myself into the London of another time. The reader’s voice was pleasant and did not make abrupt changes for characters as some narrators, but just enough inflection and rate of speech to distinguish each character. Thank you Rachel Kadish for such an enjoyable journey into another time and place while the wild winds of Oklahoma blew across my yard .

His name, they tell him, is William Monk, and he is a London police detective. But the accident that felled him has left him with only half a life; his memory and his entire past have vanished. As he tries to hide the truth, Monk returns to work and is assigned to investigate the brutal murder of a Crimean War hero and man about town. Which makes Monk’s efforts doubly difficult, since he’s forgotten his professional skills along with everything else.

Historia
The Venetians' language and way of thinking set them aside from the rest of Italy. They are an island people, linked to the sea and to the tides rather than the land. This latest work from the incomparable Peter Ackroyd, like a magic gondola, transports its listeners to that sensual and surprising city. His account embraces facts and romance, conjuring up the atmosphere of the canals, bridges, and sunlit squares, the churches and the markets, the festivals and the flowers.

The missing woman, Nanika Martinelli, is better known as the Fly Fishing Venus, a red-haired river guide who lures clients the way dry flies draw trout. As Sheriff Martha Ettinger follows hoof tracks in the snow, she finds one of the men who has fallen under the temptress' spell impaled on the antler tine of a giant bull elk, a kill that' s been claimed by a wolf pack. An accident? If not, is the killer human or animal?

Boring reader.
Revisado: 01-20-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrarator. He was very bland and did not "act" his characters.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dead Man's Fancy?
The sheriff's interview with the fishing guide.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Rick Holmes?
The reader who does C. j.Box books, or reader of the Longmire series, or the Cork O'Conner books.
Do you think Dead Man's Fancy needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Not sure yet.

Historia
When a local woman tells Sergeant Hamish Macbeth that she doesn't remember what happened the previous evening, he doesn't begin to worry. She had been out drinking, after all, and he'd prefer not to be bothered with such an arrogant and annoying woman. But when her body is discovered, Hamish is forced to investigate a crime that the only known witness - now dead - had forgotten.

Outstanding, as usual.
Revisado: 03-29-13
What did you love best about Death of Yesterday?
Once again, Beaton has written a clever and tangled mystery. But the ever clever Hamish figures it all out, much to the anger of his superiors. Now if he could just get his love life on the right track. Too bad they don't go for bigamy in the Highlands, or maybe it should be a same sex union.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Death of Yesterday?
The revelation that he most beautiful Hannah was all falsies.
What about Graeme Malcolm’s performance did you like?
His character were clear and his accents were wonderful.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Hamish does it again!
Any additional comments?
They need to bring back the BBC series.

Historia
If Arthur existed then he was probably the great British war leader who won the battle of Mount Badon. No one knows where it was fought, or how it was fought, but we do know that the battle took place and it was the one great defeat inflicted on the English invaders of Britain. In Excalibur we follow Arthur and Derfel to that enormous struggle and incredible victory.

A wonderful new take or twist on the tale of King.
Revisado: 03-14-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This story of Arthur is probably the most realistic story on this subject I have ever read, and believe me, I have read A LOT of novels and history on this subject and these characters.
The characters came alive.
What other book might you compare Excalibur to and why?
Better than Mary Stewarts series.
Have you listened to any of Tim Pigott-Smith’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Pigott- Smith is an actor not just a narrator. His characterizations are not contrived or overdone. Just enough inflection and tone and accent to make them distinguishable. He was great.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The death of the little girl.
Any additional comments?
Glad I did not discover the series as it was being written. We listened to the entire series in a week and did not have to wait for the next book.
