Historia
When Lauren and Ryan’s marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes. Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren’s ideas about monogamy and marriage.

A little bittersweet, a little thought provoking and a little laugh out loud funny. Kudos to the grandma character!

So many years; not enough insight
Revisado: 07-12-21
There were so many incidents recounted throughout the years that were interesting but irrelevant and after a time they seemed to be fillers that did not advance the story. Thankfully Julia Whelan is a superb narrator and was able to make all the “side stories” interesting. It took a while to figure out which of the experiences had particular lessons for the main characters. But while I think the book would have benefited from fewer stories the overall plot was very engaging and there were plenty of life lessons to be gleaned.

Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

It was a huge life really!
Revisado: 03-18-16
This story captivated me so much I couldn't stop thinking about it. I cried often out of outrage at the savagery of so many of the men that Jude encountered and then out of despair at Jude's inability to overcome the years of abuse inspite of the many caring people who loved him and support him. The story was brilliantly narrated. Be prepared to be swallowed up by this one man's endless struggle to love himself.

Historia
A nine-year-old boy is found murdered at the bottom of a well near a popular beach resort in southern Italy. In what looks like a hopeless case for Guido Guerrieri, a Senegalese peddler is accused of the crime. Faced with small-town racism, Guido attempts to exploit the esoteric workings of the Italian courts. The voice of Sean Barrett brings this gritty Italian detective series to life.

Where does Involuntary Witness rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In the top 10%
What was one of the most memorable moments of Involuntary Witness?
Guido, the main character moves through significant personal growth as well as professional growth throughout this book and the two are tightly linked as they often are for many of us. When he realizes he has to deal with his past and releases himself and the ones he hurt with that acknowledgement it is moving, touching and thought provoking.
What about Sean Barrett’s performance did you like?
He has a wonderful voice and is able to pull through the story with gentle nuances. I was worried at first that it might begin to sound dull but that absolutely did not happen. I was captivated.
