What a great book. I’ve never read anything like it. The ending was as perfect an ending as I’ve ever read. Chef’s kiss.

Colonel Butler has paid his dues and just wants to enjoy his retirement on a remote planet. But the galaxy has had other plans. He has been roped into searching for a politician’s missing son and an industry magnate’s missing daughter. He has been kidnapped, violated numerous laws, and caused the destruction of colonial facilities. What a great series.
Revisado: 10-03-24
As far as military sci-fi, Mammay is at the top of the food chain. The Planetside series is my favorite series going right now.
Reminiscent, of the Richard Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell (If the French Revolution occurred in space) these books would stand alone as great reads in themselves, but Darkside was my favorite since Planetside. There was one very interesting twist that I hope gets more attention in future installments.

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Doesn’t get much better than Stephen King short stories. Would anyone believe you if you dreamed where a murder victim was hidden? Probably not. How helpful is knowing your future? Good questions.

What a great book.
Revisado: 08-10-24
How would I sum this book up in one weird sentence? Thanks for asking. Here goes: If Animal Farm cared more about making me laugh than teaching me about the Russian Revolution of 1917, that, to me anyway, would be Zero Stars, Do Not Recommend.
Don't worry there are no talking pigs in this book, none that I recall anyway, just a basic white boy-uh, man-learning he can be more than he thought he ever could be with the right partner to encourage him and proper motivation. You know, like the end of the world and all.
Filled with memorable characters, sharp, funny dialogue and constant tension, M.J. Wassmer had me snorting at the edge of my seat, all the while trying to figure out the mystery of why the sun exploded, and why they all didn't die 8 minutes later.
Stephen R. Thorne did a great job of narration. I've been a big fan since listening to David Wong's, John Dies at the End many years ago.

This is a perfect book for a very imperfect generation. Millennials were the kids who wore slap bracelets and jeans so low rise they could see one another's colons, and they are now adults wondering, Is everyone else as messed up as I am? In her book, Jess shares relatable tales of a woman who feels like a dumpster fire even with a seemingly ideal set up with a fire-captain wife, three kids, and a mortgage.

I’ve always said point out the “normal” person in the room and dollars to doughnuts they’re the real freak. Hearing Jess tell her story with brutal honesty and cutting wit was incredibly moving and entertaining. Her narration reminded me that no matter our differences most of us are more alike than not.

Revisado: 02-19-24
I’m not sure how I thought this book would open, but certainly not with a story about the author's grandfather during his service in WWII and the prediction of tides in the south Pacific. Simultaneously full of facts and profoundly entertaining, Our Moon answered questions I didn't even know I wanted to ask. This book will enlighten you and entertain you. I can't recommend it enough.

I enjoyed this book very much. At once familiar and new, Sky’s End hooked me from the start. A little bit Red Rising, a smidgen of Hunger Games, and a healthy dose of something entirely new, I’m glad the sequel is in the works.

Historia
May 1940. With Nazi forces sweeping across France, invasion seems imminent. The English Channel has never felt so narrow. In rural Sussex, war veteran John Cook has been tasked with preparing the resistance effort, should the worst happen. But even as the foreign threat looms, it's rumours of a missing child that are troubling Cook. A 12-year-old girl was evacuated from London and never seen again, and she's just the tip of the iceberg - countless evacuees haven't made it to their host families. As Cook investigates, he uncovers a dark conspiracy that reaches to the highest ranks of society.

The best historical thriller I’ve read in a long time.
Revisado: 01-21-24
I enjoyed this book very much. It’s a smart, fast-paced thriller set in the UK during the uncertain times of Nazi Germany’s race to Paris
The MC, John Cook, reminded me of a cross between Jack Reacher and Uhtred of Bebbanburg.
I’m excited to see what Ronson does next. Fantastic debut.
