“It's On Me” by Sara Kuburic provides eye-opening, millennial antidotes aimed at discovering oneself, either for the first time or again after the unintentional loss of self. Those familiar with her Instagram feed will take joy in this in-depth expansion into Kubruric’s existential style, with a specified focus on self-responsibility, a lesson we could all benefit from. It took me a minute to get fully invested into “It's On Me”, but once I did I was able to glean a lot from the knowledge provided.

Thank you to The Dial Press Team at Penguin Random House and Netgalley for my ebook copy. I have since also purchased a hardback copy and the audiobook, narrated by Sara Kuburic herself.

I needed this audiobook! After listening to and reading his first, I knew this second would be an auto-buy! David Goggins delivers literary excellence utilizing his own experiences and realistic outlook on life, then pushes it further than anyone else would. True, we will not all run literal marathons, but even his closing statements allude to the fact that we each have our versions to get through and push through to become the best versions of ourselves and then take it one step further! Thank you, David Goggins!

Let me start by stating that I'm a BIG fan of Lucinda Berry; however, this latest book isn't one of my favorites. I found the psychological parts fascinating, but I didn't buy how the storyline played out. I couldn't connect with either Mom and kept hoping there’d be a few chapters from Isaac’s point of view. I did find the conversations between Jules and her therapist the most intriguing, as she knew how to play each side, having formerly been in that profession herself. As always, I'll be looking forward to reading whatever comes out of Berry’s brilliant mind next!

Spooky vibes!

After reading many crime thrillers and romances lately, I was on the hunt for something spooky, something to shake up my reading corner! What better than a book about an entire town going missing with only a stoned-to-death woman, an abandoned baby, and letters from the main character's grandmother, who had grown up in that same town before everyone's disappearance?

“The Lost Village” was certainly creepy; I'll give it that. It‘s told from three main perspectives, providing a then and now layout, which plays exceptionally well off each other, all the way up until the final reveal. Mental health plays a significant role, with those impacted having a wide array of experiences influencing their every move and belief. Without giving too much away, a film crew with ties to the town’s past goes to explore and prepare the makings of what is to be a documentary of the lost village of Silvertjärn; character’s prior history and drama amplify the tension surrounding their exploration when equipment is damaged, members of the crew become physically affected, and sinister sightings lend way to weary eyes. Who knows what or who to believe?

I enjoyed the mystery surrounding the town's disappearance the most, as told through narration from Alice’s great grandmother Elsa and letters via her great aunt Aina to her grandmother, Margareta. The cult-like vibes were strong and powerful, leaving me in anguish for many of the townsfolk. I wasn't as fond of the present-day story; I’d hoped for more of a supernatural, ghostly conclusion. Nonetheless, “The Lost Village” was hard to put down, and I was enthralled from start to finish.

I'd recommend this book to any mystery/thriller fans with interest in spooky vibes, cult-like happenings, and dual timelines! I heavily enjoyed following along between the audiobook and text; the narrator was superb.

DI Eleanor Raven is back!

“What She Knew” starts strong with DI Eleanor Raven back in action! The first two books hooked me on her character, a badass yet flawed detective with BDSM coping tendencies. Amidst book three, Eleanor is decidedly recovering from those tendencies (brought upon by childhood trauma) during her police sanctioned therapy after book two’s events in which she died, albeit temporarily.

The third-person perspectives of the main protagonists alongside the troubled antagonists made for an interesting read: diving into the characters’ psyches brings an added layer to Long’s writing. While I enjoyed reading “What She Knew,” along with revisiting Long’s cast of detectives, I found that I didn't like this installment as much as I did the first two in the series. As a whole, the storyline didn't sit right with me. I am, however, looking forward to a hopeful fourth book! DI Eleanor Raven is a memorable and exciting character that I'm not ready to let go of just yet!

I'd recommend this book to psychological thriller fans who don't mind gruesome content; a few TW with this one, including animal cruelty and cannibalism. This is book three, and while it can be read as a standalone, I'd recommend reading books one and two first for added supportive background info on the main characters. Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my ebook copy. I have honestly and voluntarily reviewed this title.

1-click author does it again!

Shalini Boland, will your psychological thrillers ever fail to amaze me? No, I think not!

"One of Us is Lying" was another page-turner (or binge-listen in my case), and I'd expect nothing less from one of my favorite *1-click* authors!

Tia, Kelly, and Fiona are childhood best friends, all grown up and mostly as close as ever. Tia and Kelly each have families of their own, while Fiona, forever career-oriented, makes up half of an outwardly perfect power couple. When rumors start to form, unbelievable photos pop up, and reputations come into question, it doesn't take long for these friends to start doubting each other and everyone around them. You'll have to read it yourself to find out just how it all unravels!

Shalini certainly knows how to write 'em! This particular story is told through three main narratives, along with glimpses into a past event that sneaks up every few chapters. "One of Us is Lying" was another one of those books that kept me interested the entire time and made me want to knock some sense into a few of their heads! While I wasn't completely pulled towards one character or another, I appreciated what each of them brought to the metaphorical table. Tia's persona was driven to protect her family, no matter the cost. Kelly desired to help those in need, even at the risk of her family. While Fiona craved peace and success. Perhaps if they'd all confided in each other, to begin with, they'd have figured out how everything connected a lot sooner - luckily for me, they didn't, as that would've shortened things up way too fast for my liking!

Now, if you're looking for a binge-read with an ending you won't entirely expect, then look no further! Thank you to the author, the publisher Bookouture and Netgalley, for my complimentary ebook copy of "One of Us is Lying"! I also purchased the paperback and audio format of this title as Shalini Boland is a favorite, and I love following along in multiple ways, depending on my mood! I'd like to note, Katie Villa was an excellent narrator for this piece of work! I have voluntarily and honestly reviewed this title as four stars.
