Having grown up in a Chicago project, it was a bittersweet trip down memory lane. The author did a great job of giving historical background while describing the experience that was "residing"in the manmade silos of poverty and injustice known as the projects. I appreciated the way she balanced the reality of the harsh conditions under which children/youth struggled to survive with the very real fact that there was still a strong sense of community, sources of hope, and a fortitude present that many looking in from the outside are often unable to see/understand (I e. why anyone living there would be saddened to see the projects destroyed).

The narrator was excellent! She did a wonderful job giving voice, personality and bringing to life the many colorful characters and capturing their mannerisms, perspectives and attitudes in a way that felt authentic.

The only thing I didn't particularly enjoy was what at times the unnecessary use of profanity. I think this would be a good book for young people to read, and I know some colorful language might be included for authenticity, but as a parent, I found it a bit excessive at times. Nevertheless, over all it was a poignant but great story wonderfully weaving history, tragedy, triumph, hope, faith and redemption into a beautiful literary tapestry

Unnecessarily long. Didn't come close to Woman in White. Narrator did a great job though.

I appreciated the creative way in which Igbo history and culture was taught and displayed. But that's about as far as the value of the book went for me. I actually found it rather disturbing that the author repeatedly included episodes of pedophilia and the rape of both male and female children. there seemed to be no limit of cruelty and sexual perversion as far as children concerned. The detail with which these things were described was unnecessary and did not really add anything to the story. It was a far cry from anything I would consider good literature.

amazing how much of his experience and observations mirror today's headlines in our country. One would have hoped we would have learned from the past and made more progress by now. Laurence Fishbourne does a pretty good job narrating, but generally sounded angry and embittered even when reading more heartwarming experiences.

well written but the different journeys of the major characters once they separated while full of adventures sometimes made the story difficult to follow. however, it was very interesting from start to finish and the narration was OUTSTANDING! The appendix with origin stories and genealogy of each of the groups (i.e. elves, dwarfs, king, etc) was well worth listening to.

Loved the performance. story quite engaging though slow at times. ended abruptly even for a trilogy. It was full of characters (some with more than 1 name) which sometimes made it hard to keep all the characters straight. Good story, but I liked The Hobbit better.

What an AMAZING journey Trevor has shared. The fact that he did not end up in a mental institution, in jail or dead is nothing short miraculous -- and an abundance of mercy and grace. Great, inspiring, educational and funny. He was also a really good narator.

Very enjoyable read. Mrs. Obama was transparent and refreshingly authentic yet gracious and positive. I could relate to many of the experiences she shared and often found myself nodding or finding solace in knowing that what I had experienced was a real and shared by others. I especially loved her ability to focus on and find hope in the ways we are more alike than different; as well as the ways in which her humble beginnings motivated her to serve, build up and advocate for children and those who have little or no voice. Lastly, she did an excellent job of narrating--even during portions that were clearly painful or impacted her and family deeply.

Dombey and Son gave a painful reminder of the debilitating effects of pride, deceit and unforgiveness via it's portrayal of Dombey, his assistant and his 2nd wife Edith, while contrasting it with a beautiful illustration of the power of love, humilty and forgiveness via Dombey's daighter Florence.

I love Dickens! However while the length of his books and his tendency to be painfully descriptive of minimally significant people, places and events, made it challenging to read through hard copy (though it was great and appropriate for his time) . The. richness of the charcter's personalities and the challenges they faced were brought to life by thre skill and talent of the narrator and I could hardly turn it off.

Good read. I liked the abridged version as I've found sometimes Grisham novels have a bit too much filler. There were some key elements in the storyline that were somewhat unrealistic but nice to see Grisham get back to the legal genre which he does so well.
