What is autism: a devastating developmental condition, a lifelong disability, or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth it is all of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it.

So you think Autism is a recent invention?
Revisado: 08-14-18
A fascinating and thoroughly readable deep dive into the roots and history of autism through stories. Some stories made me angry - we have not always treated those who are different well - some made me laugh, some made me go 'ahh, that explains it'. I especially enjoyed the section on how those who have been diagnosed are taking ownership of the way autism is perceived and changing the focus from cure to support and community.
For most, this is a book to be read in sections overtime as it is a huge amount of information to process. The writing and the narration are both very easy to work with and not at all like listening to a text book. The author is a journalist after all.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who works with or knows someone or is on the spectrum.

High adventure and dark mystery combine in a sparkling historical romance, by Jodi Taylor writing as Isabella Barclay from The Chronicles of St. Mary's. Bascombe, widowed and tied to an impoverished estate, has learned to ask little of life. With no hope of leaving, the years have passed her by. Lord Ryde, exiled abroad after a scandal, has returned to strip his estate and make a new start in America.

One of my all time favourites
Revisado: 01-05-18
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It is a great comfort read with engaging characters and a terrific performance.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Bachelor Establishment?
There were several points of surprise but I do love the first meeting of the heroine and future hero.
What about Anna Bentinck’s performance did you like?
Each of her characters are distinctly different and all are entertaining.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have relistened to this book more than almost any other audiobook (and I am a relistener with an extensive library). It makes me happy even though it deals with some tough concepts along the way.
Any additional comments?
I love all of Jodi Taylor's books and look forward to another in this genre. Worth a listen.

Extraordinary Eye Witness Account
Revisado: 04-13-13
At a time when tanks were unheard of (he describes his encounter with them as they are first deployed) and the real possibility of failure in the Somme faced the British, Geoffrey H Malins entered the war to film battles as they happened. A time of such naivety and yet one of the most brutal episodes in our history, this story provides a unique (and highly biased as is to be expected) point of view of WW1. The narrator does a wonderful job of bringing the character of our hero to life adding real warmth to the narrative. If you are at all interested in WW1, The Somme battles, early film making or just early 20thC history this is well worth a listen.
