Historia
The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it’s the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city - gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific work of Jack the Ripper in the autumn of 1888. Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect.

Revisado: 01-09-13
What did you love best about The Name of the Star?
Overall story was very good, nothing specific stood out.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Rory. Because she is smart, and couragous, and she won't let anyone tell her what to do.
Have you listened to any of Nicola Barber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
no
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, when the ripper and rory are in the abandoned tude station.
Any additional comments?
Even though this is a YA book, i found the story entertaining and compelling. This book kept me guessing and the suprise ending was amazing. I look forward to Maureen Johnson's next book involving the Shades.

The victim’s name is Zenia Gadney. Her waterfront neighbors can tell him little - only that the same unknown gentleman had visited her once a month for many years. She must be a prostitute, but - described as quiet and kempt - she doesn’t appear to be a fallen woman. What sinister secrets made poor Zenia worth killing?

Out in the hivelike streets, she discovers herself strangely adept in the skills of the underworld, escaping through alleys and rooftops, picking pockets and locks. She is clothed like a man, and armed only with her wits and a scrap of paper containing a mysterious Arabic phrase. Overhead, warplanes pass ominously north.

If you could sum up Garment of Shadows in three words, what would they be?
Spellbinding, intriguing, captivating.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Garment of Shadows?
When Russell lost her memory, what happens when Holmes finds her, and whether or not they get away from thier kidnappers.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene takes place in the medival underground prison. As long as you are not claustrophobic, the scenes that take place underground are memorable and intense.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, i couldn't put this book down. I finished it in two days.
Any additional comments?
The Russell / Holmes books are some of my favorite. Being a Sherlock Holmes fanantic, I find these books fun and refreshing. I can't wait for the next one to come out.
