Historia
After a wild work-sponsored Halloween party, entomologist Sam McLean wakes up with a spotty memory-and a pointy set of fangs. Sam's one-night stand wasn't just dressed as a vampire; she had the bite to match. Somehow, Sam's unconscious body ends up at the OOPS office, where paranormal crisis counselors Nina, Marty, and Wanda give him the down-low on accidentally becoming a creature of the night.

A lot of good laughs
Revisado: 03-20-15
Would you listen to Accidentally Dead, Again again? Why?
Not for quite a while, I don't enjoy it as much when I remember all the details. But I'm sure I'll share it and listen again maybe months to years from now.
What other book might you compare Accidentally Dead, Again to and why?
Others in the series, but none I can recall quite as runny
Which scene was your favorite?
Any scene with Nina and Phoebe slamming each other generally turned out to be hilarious. The author has gotten better over time and I hope continues to write the series.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, the story was just a little out there but was well written so it's okay. Over all I just enjoyed that she kept it relatively light hearted/
Any additional comments?
I wish the author was more discreet when writing the love scenes. I think JD Robb does it best by leaving pretty much everything to the imagination. Some of the words used by this author, I just find crass which to me takes away from any romance. You don't have to use the words c*&k and c(*t when describing body parts. I always end up skipping over the love scenes in her books.

Historia
Detroit artist Meagan Kelly has had a strong sixth sense all her life, but that doesn’t mean the gorgeous stranger’s crazy story—that she’s a half-elf, half human heiress—is true. But Meagan can’t deny the evidence of her own eyes—he’s Fae. A tall, blond, handsome, pointy-eared elf—and a man she just can’t get enough of.

Narration makes all the difference in the world
Revisado: 10-08-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The description of the this book along with a special offer had me downloading it. The author could take a lesson from JD Robb in the "In Death" series, when writing the sex scenes. She's trying to show people falling in love, not catching a quickie, so the gross wording and descriptions take everything away from thinking it's a love scene and not some guy hiring a hooker. The major issue I had with the book which sadly discolored the whole listening experience for me was the narrator trying to come up with what she thought was the correct accent for the main male character. Early in the story it was said he was from the British Isles, so the narrator who herself has a British accent, could have easily used that along with some male intonations to accomplish that role. Instead she ended up making him sound like someone from New Delhi rather than Wales. It was totally off-putting, and since it was a predominant character throughout the book it very much threw off the whole thing. I've noted the narrator for following books is different so hopefully that issue has been put to rest. Otherwise it was typical of what I assume is a "first book". The basic story was fun but overshadowed by the issues I mentioned. I wish the author well and expect to see improvement so I may very well try at least one more in hopes of seeing an improvement. Again, the slutty sex scenes very much detract from the book, had they been delivered in a classier love scene fashion it would have gone a long way toward improving the listening experience.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Terry Donnelly?
The best narrator I've found is the one who reads all of the JD Robb's "In Death" series. She has the ability for accents and is wonderful.
What would have made this romance irresistible?
Making the sex scenes more into love scenes. Stop with the gross descriptions of actions and body parts, they really aren't needed to get the point across.
Any additional comments?
I truly believe the author will improve with time and experience.

Not my cup of tea
Revisado: 10-05-13
What did you like best about Geomancer: Well of Echoes, Book 1? What did you like least?
I'm having trouble thinking of what I liked best. This is because it turned out to be quite a boring and slow moving story to me. I'm sure there are those who will like this book but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
Would you ever listen to anything by Ian Irvine again?
Not at this time
Have you listened to any of Grant Cartwright’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't believe I can think of any other books I've listened to that were narrated by this gentleman who did a respectable job with very dry material. If there was anything at all in the way of a high point for this book it would be the performance but there's only so much you can do based on the material.
Do you think Geomancer: Well of Echoes, Book 1 needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Obviously it's the first in a series, so a publisher was willing to keep betting on the author. This just reinforces my belief that others may very well find this author of interest, but I can't see any point in dragging this story out any more, one book was enough to put me to sleep.
Any additional comments?
I was tempted on numerous occasions to just shut it off and move to another book but I kept going in an effort to find some redeeming value in the story. Sadly it just wasn't there for me. I haven't looked to see if there are other reviews and if so what they are so this is very much just me. I love sci-fi, and futuristic to some point, but I don't like much about stories that are written in a time with no modern conveniences. So this one is an interesting mix of no modernity with some sci-fi tangents. It still didn't do it for me. I hope others enjoy it but I'm going to go back to hoping that JD Robb hurries up and writes the next book in the "In Death" series which I dearly love.

The best series I've ever listened to
Revisado: 06-19-12
I will admit, listening to the first in the series had me wondering. Accepting the space age things in 2059 almost had me put off as too "out there" but I hung in to listen to the whole book and lord am I glad I did!! I'm not sure who to admire more, the author for her incredible writing or Susan Erickson for her wonderfully versatile performances reading this amazing series. Erickson has the ability to become an entire cast of characters seamlessly with sometimes the slightest changes in accent, or tone that instantly have you recognizing each as a separate entity. She IS Eve Dallas, and Peabody, and oh so much Roarke. This is one amazing actress and I can't thank her enough for having me pinned to my seat, or laughing out loud. But I don't want to short change JD Robb who absolutely flabberghasts me at the in depth way she has Dallas "become" her suspects. I've never read or listened to any author who could so deeply look into the mind of a criminal and in such a very believable way as to keep me pinned to my Ipod. As I'm sure so many other women are, I'm madly in love with Roarke, and think Peabody is "iced". All the characters are so clear, both from the authors ability to provide the words, and Susan's ability to create the scenes in my mind. I will be listening to every book in this series, so JD, keep 'em coming. I don't EVER want to catch up with you and have to wait for the next one.

Entertaining series
Revisado: 06-19-12
I've been a solid audio book listener for years, and have tired of several "sci-fi/fantasy" series that degraded amusingly enough into "too much sex and not enough violence". During my search for a new author I came upon J.R. Rain's first novel and thoroughly enjoyed it. I quickly opted for the 2nd and 3rd and have not been disappointed. As much credit as I want to give the author for the story, I don't want to short change the performance, which any listener with any experience knows, can make or break an audio book. So kudos on both fronts.

"Vampires in Chicago! You'd think headlines like that would have provoked the fine citizens of the Windy City to take up arms against us bloodsucking fiends. Instead, 10 months later, we're enjoying a celebrity status reserved for the Hollywood elite - fending off paparazzi only slightly less dangerous than cross- and stake-wielding slayers. Don't get me wrong. Joe Public isn't exactly thrilled to be living side-by-side with the undead, but at least they haven't stormed the castle...yet."

The Cover Doesn't Do It Justice
Revisado: 03-11-12
I agree wholeheartedly with a review written by Jennifer. It's unfortunate the publisher chose to put forth an impression of romance and sex rather than truly reflect the content of this series. It isn't fluff by any means. I've listened to the first couple of books in the series so far (downloading the next as I write this) but was totally hooked after the first one. When I listen I want to escape day to day reality, and move into a world where I think "could this actually happen?" I want to go to a place in the believable realm of imagination and this series is totally meeting that need. Its full of action, mystery and yes, there is a romantic undercurrent but it doesn't overshadow the story. I hope it continues in the same vein and thoroughly look forward to each new book in the series.

Hang in there!
Revisado: 09-25-11
When I first started listening to this book I was concerned it was not going to be a good one. The narrator was good but it's a bit slow starting. I wanted to be sure to write this review so everyone would hang in there and not miss an excellent book because before you know it, you're hooked. It's a great story, great narration, and thoroughly enjoyable. Only one real complaint and that is the ending. It's obviously leading into a sequel but you will be a little frustrated because there are so many directions it can go from the point it ends. I haven't looked into the sequel yet but I know there will be one. I HAVE to know what happens next and you will too. Enjoy, it's a great book.

Revisado: 09-11-11
This is an incredible series of books. I've come to truly appreciate how critical the narrator is to an audio version of a story no matter how wonderful the written version may be. This narrator makes you see what's going on and feel the fun and horror of the story. I have become totally immersed each time and look forward to each episode with great anticipation. A stellar performance each time and wonderful story lines make this series one you shouldn't miss.
