Where does Tenacious rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Since I listen to James Marsters' performances of the Harry Dresden files, I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to Narrator performances.

What did you like best about this story?

Mike Shepard writes another well done story, it's hard to pinpoint a best.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Pearlman tends to read slowly, which doesn't really go with the fast pace of the book,

Any additional comments?

And I really would like someone to teach Pearlman how to pronounce the word "viceroy". It only has two syllables, not three. The "e" in the middle is silent. It is pronounced like there is a hyphen there: "vice-roy". It was jarring to have the mispronunciation in the middle of an otherwise well enunciated performance.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is one of my favorite books, which I've read several times, but Dina Pearlman reads it like she's a struggling sixth grade reader. She adds pauses in the wrong places, sometimes changing the meaning of a sentence. And she obviously hasn't heard the song that is quoted significantly throughout the last third of the book. It gets to the point that it's almost painful to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Defiant?

I love reading the book, especially the last third, which is the battle.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Again, Dina Pearlman reads this like she's struggling to read, putting in pauses where none belong, sometimes changing the apparent meaning of a sentence, and the "March of Cambreath" is badly read. It's obvious she's never heard it. Also, sometimes her voice for Sandy Santiago is too close to her voice for Kris, and it's hard to tell who's saying what at times.

Was Defiant worth the listening time?

No.

Any additional comments?

Please get someone else to re-record this book. I'll be returning it until then.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend the book, as I have read it several times, but only if they've read the others in the series. It has everything that makes Eddings fun to read, good descriptions, snappy banter, fun characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Belgarath the Sorcerer?

The story itself is a lot of fun, it's hard to chose just one moment, however, "baking boards" tends to spring to mind.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of J. P. Linton?

Any one else, preferably someone who doesn't think that big means the character talks slowly, and who understands that Belgarath is a dramatic storyteller. This book is written in Belgarath's voice, and I don't think he would tell it in a boring, almost monotone.

Do you think Belgarath the Sorcerer needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It is a follow up book, and it already has a follow-up book. 10 books in the series is enough.
