Historia
For Jeff Johnston, a young historical researcher for a Civil War novelist, reality is redefined on a bitter cold night near the close of a lingering winter. He meets Annie, an intense and lovely young woman suffering from vivid, intense nightmares. Haunted by the dreamer and her unrelenting dreams, Jeff leads Annie on an emotional odyssey through the heartland of the Civil War in search of a cure. On long-silenced battlefields their relationship blossoms—two obsessed lovers linked by unbreakable chains of history, torn by a duty that could destroy them both.

Good story, unfortunate narration
Revisado: 01-06-24
I enjoyed the story a lot, but it was hard to listen to. The narrator has a really grating habit of dragging out the sound of the last syllable at the end of nearly every sentence. If you’re new to Connie Willis, maybe don’t start here. To Say Nothing of the Dog, Black Out / All Clear, and Crosstalk are all excellent places to start reading (or listening to) your new favorite author.

Peaceful
Revisado: 05-13-23
The sound of the ocean, peaceful and perfect. I only wish it was 2 hrs long. I play this on nights when I can’t sleep or am feeling anxious, and also when my neighbors are having a party, and especially for my dogs when they are restless because of fireworks. Hoh Rainforest, by the same author/artist, is also very good and is 2 hrs long.

Historia
Brenden Vetch has a gift. With an innate sense he cannot explain to himself or describe to others, he is able to connect to the agricultural world, nurturing gardens to flourish and instinctively knowing the healing properties each plant and herb has to offer. But Brenden's gift isolates him from people and from becoming part of a community - until the day he receives a personal invitation from the Wizard Od.

Slow and theatrical
Revisado: 04-13-23
This is a really nice story, but half way through I gave up on the audiobook and bought a paper copy instead. The narration seems to be for young children, with most characters speaking in the “from a land far-far-away, wise and windy, fairy-godmother” voice. A lovely story otherwise, great for all ages. I recommend picking up a paper copy of you like a quick step and bit of spirit in your stories.

It really helps
Revisado: 02-22-23
I listen to this guided meditation a few times a week, and it really helps with my chronic migraines. I used to see Dr. Pulos for treatment in person, pre pandemic, and could go for years without a migraine after a few sessions. He really knows his stuff and is a very caring and excellent human being too.

This Audible Exclusive performance features a unique introduction written and narrated by Miriam Margolyes. Recognised as one of Dickens' most accomplished titles, Bleak House has impressed critics and audiences alike since it was first published in 1852. The novel boasts one of the most intelligent and engaging plots in all of English literature and is sure to engage the listener's imagination as it transports us back in time to the seedy, grimy and hazardous streets of Victorian London.

Just when I thought I couldn’t love ‘Bleak House’ any more
Revisado: 04-11-22
Just when I thought I couldn’t love ‘Bleak House’ any more than I already did, I discovered the Miriam Margolyes reading. It is a masterpiece - an absolutely stunning performance of my favorite book. I recommend this to anyone with a beating heart, even though it’s going to break it.
Ps. Probably the best audio performance I’ve ever listened to too. Ever.

Excellent story, terrible narration
Revisado: 08-16-20
I thought I would treat myself to the audio version of one of my favorite books, but was seriously disappointed in the narrator’s delivery. The main female lead sounded like a big spoiled baby, and all of the male professors were angry, stuffy and slow - all of the time! Connie Willis’s stories are spirals of intricate detail and thought-provoking goodness that are a pleasure to get swept up in. Please don’t let this narration turn you off from the Doomsday Book, if you’re still interested in the story give the print version a try!
