In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Delightful

I enjoyed every minute of this book. Ann P tells a story beautifully and I found myself listening as if I were sitting with a dear friend. Streeps reading further enhanced the intimacy, humor and bittersweet tale.

Historia
Amber Patterson is fed up. She's tired of being a nobody: a plain, invisible woman who blends into the background. She deserves more - a life of money and power like the one blond-haired, blue-eyed goddess Daphne Parrish takes for granted. To everyone in the exclusive town of Bishops Harbor, Connecticut, Daphne - a socialite and philanthropist - and her real-estate mogul husband, Jackson, are a couple straight out of a fairy tale. Amber's envy could eat her alive...if she didn't have a plan.

I can’t believe I finished this book.
Revisado: 09-29-21
This was recommended to me & I felt obligated to listen to it. It is not a good book. Spoiler alert: an abused woman setting up another woman to be abused is disgusting even if that other woman is a horrible human being. The author seems to think it is poetic justice. How sad.

Stunning
Revisado: 09-17-20
Didion is honest, raw and eloquent in this lovely telling of her tragic year. Redgrave is a master and I felt convinced (despite knowing better) this must be the author and not a narrator. She simply tells a story and never for a moment did I think she was reading. A rare gem.

I found this book to be a great disappointment. I heard so many positive reviews, but I found the writing to be average. The dialogue didn’t correspond with the time period & it was often a slog to get through.

What a shame...
Revisado: 03-28-19
This was a great story, carefully researched, investigated and captured but ultimately sabotaged by Danny Robins' juvenile, sensationalist-style narration. I suffered through due to my interest in Johnny Cash, but it was cringe inducing.

Revisado: 02-24-19
Initially, I was put off by the author’s narrative style. A friend encouraged me to stick with it and I am so glad I did. I soon adjusted to her speech, and slow monotone. I was rewarded with a brilliant, complicated mind with a sharp wit. I felt a slight panic when I realized i was at the end. I will miss her and Bill.

A true American story
Revisado: 02-13-19
Michelle Obama wrote an honest and interesting story of her life. I shared in her joys, her pride, disappointments and anger. For me, the narration started off well but ended up sounding somewhat flat and without her unique personality and spirit. Still, no one else could narrate her story as well, so it was overall enjoyable and well worth reading or listening.

Cringe worthy
Revisado: 09-30-15
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Fans of sappy stories who can overlook absurd dialogue will tolerate this book.
What was most disappointing about Catherine Ryan Hyde’s story?
The fact that I actually pushed my self to finish it is the most disappointing part.
What didn’t you like about Jeff Cummings’s performance?
Oh boy... Why do so many performers insist on using squeeky, tiny voices for young characters? They become not only unbelievable but also unsettling to hear. The reader relied on his skill of imitating quirky, Pepperidge Farm style voices. The results are characters who don't seem plausible or interesting.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was bewildered at the 4 star reviews this story received.

Beautifully read by Carolyn Seymour
Revisado: 05-18-15
With only a few exceptions, the narrator does an excellent job of reading Pride & Prejudice. While I greatly enjoyed her voice and characterization as Mrs Bennett, I was less happy with her grasp of Elizabeth. Still, it was thoroughly enjoyable to listen to her narration of this classic.
