This book really hit home for me. The author is a gay therapist with decades of experience working with gay men of all ages. His knowledge and insight into the issues that impact the lives of gay men will resonate with many men who struggle with understanding themselves and the lasting impact of growing up in a society that doesn't value us. Too often the result of this trauma is shame, isolation, and life-long feelings of being different. What I found most valuable about this book was the many personal stories of gay men the author has worked with throughout his career, including his own heartwarming story of love, friendship, and loss. I highly recommend this book.

Wow! I'm so glad I took a chance on this audiobook. I got totally wrapped up in this story about two hockey players who find each other again after a fallout. The two narrators do an amazing job of building up the sexual tension between these men. Some of the scenes are smoking hot and the stuff of jock fantasies. I now have to listen to the next book in this series and start following these narrators!

When We Rise is an amazing account of the life of Cleve Jones, who has been involved in some of the most important events in LGBT history over the last 40 years. I really enjoyed listening to Cleve tell of his struggles as a closeted gay kid who ventures out to San Francisco in 1972 and finds himself in the middle of a gay revolution. Hearing about his experiences working with Harvey Milk and witnessing the beginning of the AIDS crisis are powerful and heartbreaking. When We Rise provides an important account of the gay rights movement from someone who has been there fighting for equality his entire life.
