Historia
All her life, Annie has played it nice and safe. After being unceremoniously dumped by her longtime boyfriend, Annie seeks a fresh start. She accepts a teaching position that moves her from Manhattan to a small village upstate. She’s stunned by how perfect and picturesque the town is. The people are all friendly and warm. Her new apartment is dreamy too, minus the oddly persistent spider infestation. Then Annie meets Sophie. Beautiful, charming, magnetic Sophie, who takes a special interest in Annie, who wants to be her friend.

Tedious
Revisado: 10-03-23
I bought this book based on the reviews and I feel like everyone else must have read a different book.
I was hoping for a cozy fall book with some witchy action, but 75% of this books revolves around a weird toxic friendship and nothing truly exciting ever seems to happen. Unless you've just gone through a breakup and are looking for a cathartic read, I would take a pass on this one.

So. Slow.
Revisado: 12-03-20
I wanted to like this, but it's just so very slow. I do not understand they hype around it. I kept waiting for it to pick up and get interesting, but I was two hours from the end before I realized that wasn't going to happen. If you like books with lots of navel gazing and people suffering, I guess this is the one.

Historia
Multiverse travel is finally possible, but there’s just one catch: No one can visit a world where their counterpart is still alive. Enter Cara, whose parallel selves happen to be exceptionally good at dying—from disease, turf wars, or vendettas they couldn’t outrun. Cara’s life has been cut short on 372 worlds in total. On this dystopian Earth, however, Cara has survived. Identified as an outlier and therefore a perfect candidate for multiverse travel, Cara is plucked from the dirt of the wastelands.

Beautiful story, great narration
Revisado: 10-19-20
This book was made to be an audiobook, Nicole Lewis' narration did an amazing job of bringing this book to life.
The story itself is beautiful - it's a fast paced sci-fi that covers topics like death and power in a truly interesting way. It's a definite must read.

Historia
Fifteen years ago, five ordinary teenagers were singled out by a prophecy to take down an impossibly powerful entity wreaking havoc across North America. He was known as the Dark One, and his weapon of choice - catastrophic events known as Drains - leveled cities and claimed thousands of lives. Chosen Ones, as the teens were known, gave everything they had to defeat him. After the Dark One fell, the world went back to normal...for everyone but them. Of the five, Sloane has had the hardest time adjusting.

I wanted this to be good...
Revisado: 07-08-20
I love the premise of this book, following "chosen ones" after the fact, sounds like a great time!
However this reads like just a straight up YA novel, and the ending and "twists" are all things you can see coming from miles away. It's super formulaic.
I didn't hate the narration, but I wouldn't call it good, as other reviewers have mentioned it's just weirdly flat throughout.

Historia
Carolyn's not so different from the other human beings around her. After all, she was a normal American herself once. That was a long time ago, of course - before the time she calls "adoption day", when she and a dozen other children found themselves being raised by a man they learned to call Father.

Like nothing else out there.
Revisado: 12-07-18
I'm not even sure how to describe this book, it really doesn't compare to anything else I've ever read, and that's great! An interview with the author says that he wanted to incorporate the dysfunctional family aspect of the ancient Greek gods Add in some horror and the modern age and that's as close to describing the book as I can get. It's fantastic.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Loved this, great hard sci-fi
Revisado: 12-07-18
I've been missing out on Andy Weir until now, this book was great. The main character was delightfully realistic and flawed, and the narration was perfect. I'll absolutely be re listening to this one at some point.

Glad I didn't pay much for this one.
Revisado: 12-07-18
This book was...weird. For every piece of useful information I found there were about 10 pieces of total nonsense. Implying that not pursuing your creativity can lead to cancer, seriously?? George Guidall was also a strange choice to narrate this, it felt a little bit like being yelled at by Walt Longmire. If you're on the fence, skip this one.

This will make you feel better about any breakup.
Revisado: 11-08-18
Has your breakup ever caused a war? No? Then you're doing better than most of the couples featured in this book.
A funny, but also insightful look into some of the biggest breakups in history, spanning the course of thousands of years. While not quite as good as "Get Well Soon", by the same author, this is still a nice easy listen that's guaranteed to make anyone feel a little better about their relationship.
