Poor performance, rushed narration & awkward pauses in sentences, unresearched pronunciation of some words really took me out of the story too. The story was a fun premise but fails to capture my imagination. Feels ghost written or something, I expected better from Melissa Albert…

Three years later, however—having made three well reviewed but low-selling albums—Nick had been overwhelmed by a mysterious mental illness. He returned to live in his family home in rural Warwickshire in 1971, and died in obscurity in 1974, aged just 26.

Beautifully read by the author, thoughtful, deeply researched and a true gift to many fans. My curiosity and hunger for Nick Drake may not be fully satiated, but this biography provides so many places to alight and pause and look up and listen to a song and then continue… just a real tribute. Thank you.

Tender chronological stories

Taking place on one property “at the edge of the world “ cape cod, (Truro? Ptown?), lovely little stories moving forward in time through the ages.
Nice conclusion too. Have a listen cause it was in the plus catalog and because I enjoy the writing of Alice Hoffman, but I’ll say it’s a sparkly little gem that I’d have gladly paid a credit for.

Skyward Inn, within the high walls of the Western Protectorate, is a place of safety, where people come together to tell stories of the time before the war with Qita. But safety from what? Qita surrendered without complaint when Earth invaded; Innkeepers Jem and Isley, veterans from either side, have regrets but few scars. Their peace is disturbed when a visitor known to Isley comes to the Inn asking for help, bringing reminders of an unnerving past and triggering an uncertain future.

Dreamy, weird

Slowly unfolding, dreamy, weird scifi. It’s evocative and philosophical, hits all the right marks. Not for everyone maybe (fragmented narrative, multiple perspectives, dips in and out of immersion & self-awareness). Loved the ending. I like the author so much I’m off to read The Beauty right now!
The narrator might have paused a little between narrative shifts so it would have been easier to discern who is speaking.
