It took a long time for me to get into this book. The terms and names were confusing to me at first. The magic is very undefined, Jade gives power but how it is used isn't really clear or maybe it's just me being unfamiliar with this type of magic. Overall the story was good, could have done with fewer characters and their titles.

Typical Dystopian YA Novel Kind Of

The story is interesting but drags at points which is why I gave it a 4 star for story. It's mostly similar to every other dystopian novel you've read. Teens forced to fight a "foreign oppressor" but first must go through a training that is overly complicated and a bit odd. The twist that makes it different comes in the last few chapters but you can see it coming well in advance if you pay attention.

Overall it was still entertaining and I will most likely continue reading the sequels.

wasn't surprised by the BBEG but still enjoyed

There are couple mysteries happening at the same time. I saw the foreshadowing of the 2 major players so I wasn't shocked. However the storytelling was engaging and captivated my interest. Narrator was a perfect voice for the mc.

The narrator reads in an Irish accent for the mc, but the mc says she spoke German with an Elven accent and I swore she said she spoke English in a German accent. Did I mix this up? I liked her performance and the story was good, it took me too long to reflect on that comment to find it again.

Found Through Author's YT Channel

Ms Hannah mentioned her book on her YT channel Hannah's Over Invested and I decided to check it out. This book should be more widely known, reviewed and discussed.

Never have I seen anyone use Balor in fiction before, the Fomorians and Llugh constantly but never Balor. The story was compelling and the characters interesting. While I did see the surprise BBEG coming, I was still glad to see a few tricks I wasn't ready for.

The writing wasn't the only thing done well, the narration was fantastic, loved the voices.

I wanted to jump in the grave with her husband it would have been more exciting. Didn't get far before I just wasn't interested enough to continue.

Not my favorite Drew Hayes novel

I felt like this dragged on longer than necessary. Understood the premise after the Cinderella story didn't need 5 more similar stories to develop the concept. Great concept, less than stellar execution.

Not what I was looking for

The story was interesting just a bit immature for my taste. Good sci-fi YA, just not Sanderson great. While it ended in a cliff hanger I'm satisfied leaving the series here. This was recommended to me by my son and he really enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed this story and can't wait to see where the author will take it in the future. For a moment I thought she might have been Ilona Andrews when she mentioned the name of their heaven add had to double check the author credit.

Cipriano' has a super human ability to write a funny yet compelling tale and Luke Daniels has the super human ability to bring it to life with his voice.
