Historia
Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

Outstanding writing on a truly horrific crime
Revisado: 11-16-23
Bugliosi does a great job of not only telling the horrific story, but also manages to convey the mood and fear of the time. I was six years old and about to start first grade when these murders were committed. I was terrified that Charles Manson would escape and come get me 2000 miles away. The fear of Manson and his family seems to ooze from the reading of this story. It is as horrific today as it was in 1969. I will never understand how a human can be so inhumane to another. Unfortunately, I don’t think the book helps to understand it any better, but that is a problem with humanity, not the author.
It is clear that Bugliosi knows this subject thoroughly. He had to in order to prosecute the offenders, but his knowledge goes well beyond a prosecution. To me, a sign of a good book is that it is read, or listened to, more than once. I think I’ve listened to this at least half a dozen times. I learn something new every time.
The narrator does an excellent job as well. Even though I have listened to this multiple time, I have to remind myself that it isn’t the author narrating the book. He is outstanding.

Historia
With more than half a million copies sold, Robert Mason's Chickenhawk is one of the best-selling books ever written about the Vietnam War. Fascinated with flying from a young age, Mason earned his private pilot's license even before graduating high school. He enlisted in the army in 1964 and endured an extremely challenging "weeding out" process in an effort to fly helicopters. Sent to Vietnam, he survived more than 1,000 air combat missions despite the violence and brutality exploding all around him.

Repeat listener
Revisado: 10-22-23
I’ve always felt a good book is one you read, or in this case listen to, multiple times. I think I’ve listened to Chickenhawk at least five times. I don’t know how it took me so long to discover this book. I love military books, aviation books, autobiographies/memoirs. Bob Mason’s writing captures you from the beginning. The narrator did a superb job too. It felt like Bob Mason was sitting in my living room, telling me about his days as a helicopter pilot. The first time I listened to the book, I finished it in just a few days. I was captivated. The ending really caught me by surprise. I was so shocked I thought I had somehow bumped over to another book by mistake. I had to double check to make sure I was still listening to Chickenhawk. It was heartbreaking and real. Kudos to Bob Mason for being open about the good, the bad, and the ugly. Each time I have listened to and finished the book, I get a little bummed that it is over. I can’t recommend it enough.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

I knew this story, but only through some brief news stories, weak TV movies and what my dad taught me. This book is excellent. I felt like I really got to know several of the survivors. The narrator does a super job, and the author’s work is outstanding. I e listened to it multiple times.

Historia
We Band of Angelsis the story of women searching for adventure, caught up in the drama and danger of war. On the same day the Japanese Imperial Navy launched its surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, it also struck American bases in the Far East, chief among them the Philippines. That raid led to the first major land battle for America in World War II and, in the end, to the largest defeat and surrender of American forces.

Excellent read about a very unappreciated group of heroic women
Revisado: 08-06-18
What these women endured, and ultimately survived is simply amazing. It’s unfortunate this story hasn’t been told in a more prominent way. I recommend this book to anyone. Great pace and well told.
Well done!

A true survival story that follows one of America's most beloved presidents, John F. Kennedy, as he fought to save his crew after a deadly shipwreck in the Pacific during World War II. In September 1941, young Jack Kennedy was appointed an Ensign in the US Naval Reserve. On August 2, 1943, Kennedy's PT 109 and two others were on a mission to ambush an enemy supply convoy when they were surprised by a Japanese destroyer. In Harm's Way tells the story of what happened next as JFK fought to save his surviving crew members who found themselves adrift in enemy waters.

It was a bit of a disappointment for me
Revisado: 08-06-18
I had high hopes for this book, but it was a little disappointing for me. It seemed like the narrator was overly excited and spoke too fast. The story of JFK and the PT 109 is an amazing part of our history, so I was anticipating something special. It fell short of that for me. Maybe I will try to listen again to see if it’s better the second time around.
I actually preferred the way the story is told in PT 105. Ha
F way through this book, I jumped back into PT 105 and listened to the story of PT 109 there.

Historia
Admittedly small and vulnerable, PT boats were, nevertheless, fast - the fastest craft on the water during World War II - and Dick Keresey's account of these tough little fighters throws new light on their contributions to the war effort. As captain of PT 105, the author was in the same battle as John F. Kennedy when Kennedy's PT 109 was rammed and sunk. The famous incident, Keresey says, has often been described inaccurately and the PT boat depicted as unreliable and ineffective.

Amazing book and great performance by narrator
Revisado: 05-12-18
This book captured my attention almost immediately. It is written in such a way that you almost feel like you are sitting around the authors dining room table, and he is reminiscing about his Naval service. He is a great story teller, and doesn’t mind detailing everything, including some of his more embarrassing moments as well as those involving significant action.
It is one of those books that when you finish you are elated to have selected such a great book, and sad that it is finished. I could have listened to so much more from this author.
The narrator did such a great job of telling the story, that at times I really thought I was listening to the actual author. I’m going to find more books narrated by this man.
You will be glad you selected this audiobook.
