Not really an exciting or interesting story. The weakest so far. The partnership is what keeps this going.

Historia
The first Plantagenet king inherited a blood-soaked kingdom from the Normans and transformed it into an empire stretched at its peak from Scotland to Jerusalem. In this epic history, Dan Jones vividly resurrects this fierce and seductive royal dynasty and its mythic world. We meet the captivating Eleanor of Aquitaine, twice queen and the most famous woman in Christendom; her son, Richard the Lionheart, who fought Saladin in the Third Crusade; and King John, a tyrant who was forced to sign Magna Carta, which formed the basis of our own Bill of Rights.

Historia
Twenty years ago, Ray Campbell, now a cautious risk-management consultant, was a well-intentioned aid worker dedicated to improving conditions in Lubanda, a newly independent African country. He is forced to reconsider that year of living dangerously when a friend from his time in Lubanda is found murdered in a New York alley. Signs suggest that this most recent tragedy is rooted in the far more distant one of Martine Aubert, the only woman Ray ever truly loved and whose fate he’d sealed in a moment of grievous error.

A theme
Revisado: 11-06-24
Cook has a major theme. It appears in each book leading the protagonist hurt and scarred. In this one the story is exotic in that Africa is new territory but otherwise it follows the theme. This is a born story teller, and his books are all worth reading. This one is very dark. You will not be a happy camper when you finish.

Historia
In 1461, Nicholas is in Florence. Backed by none other than Cosimo de' Medici, he will sail the Black Sea to Trebizond, last outpost of Byzantium, and the last jewel missing from the crown of the Ottoman Empire. But trouble lies ahead. Nicholas's stepdaughter—at the tender age of thirteen—has eloped with his rival in trade: a Machiavellian Genoese who races ahead of Nicholas, sowing disaster at every port. And time is of the essence: Trebizond may fall to the Turks at any moment.

Historia
Niccolò Rising, book one of the series, finds us in Bruges, 1460. Jousting is the genteel pastime, and successful merchants are, of necessity, polyglot. Street smart, brilliant at figures, adept at the subtleties of diplomacy and the well-timed untruth, Dunnett's hero rises from wastrel to prodigy in a breathless adventure that wins him the hand of the strongest woman in Bruges and the hatred of two powerful enemies.

Only the best author of my lifetime.
Revisado: 06-22-24
Ms Dunnett was one of few true geniuses I have ever met. A painter, musician and the greatest writer I have ever read, she was also a charming generous hostess. After being sure that nothing could rival her Lymond Series and her stand alone "King Hereafter", along came Nicholas the clown. This is an amazing trip around the world that the author came to know as she knew Scotland. Bless you Dorothy, you gave great gifts.
