Great romance!
Revisado: 08-19-24
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! The romance had simmering chemistry while still being clean. The characters were likeable and relatable. My only complaint about the writing style is there were an unnecessary amount of dialogue tags.

Started off slow, but good overall
Revisado: 11-11-23
It took me a while to get invested in the plot... An hour or two in I was contemplating giving up. But then it finally hooked me! I enjoyed this book more as an "enemies to lovers" romance than as a mystery, but the mystery elements were still good. The narrator wasn't brilliant at voices; sometimes it was hard to tell which character was speaking.

One of my favorites in the series. I thought the mystery progressed nicely and enjoyed the relationship between Daisy and Alec. The ending was a bit predictable and too rushed.

Historia
Judith Potts is 77 years old and blissfully happy. She lives on her own in a faded mansion just outside Marlow, there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink, and to keep herself busy she sets crosswords for The Times newspaper. One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. The local police don’t believe her story, so she decides to investigate for herself and is soon joined in her quest by Suzie, a salt-of-the-earth dog-walker, and Becks, the prim and proper wife of the local vicar.

Delightfully entertaining
Revisado: 09-23-23
From the first chapter, I was intrigued by Judith and her idiosyncrasies. I love that the first murder happens right away -- no long, boring introductory chapters. The ending was certainly unexpected and satisfying. Some parts of the plot seemed far-fetched, but if you're looking for a fun, fanciful story with quirky characters, this is for you!

Great performance and unique story
Revisado: 09-08-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this! The story drew me in right away. I feel that this book could be for young adults or adults equally. Some parts were distinctly "middle schooler-y", but if I were reading this as a 13-year-old I think the plot would have freaked me out. The ending was quite chilling. Some aspects were far-fetched, but overall I was invested in listening until the very end.

Historia
Jack would rather be at sea than fixing the mistakes of his grandfather, the late Earl of Stansworth. Instead, he finds that inheriting his grandfather's wealth and title and securing the welfare of his sister and mother means joining the ranks of high society and living with the aristocracy. Luckily, Ivy Carslisle, the granddaughter of a dear friend of Jack's late grandmother, is willing to teach him etiquette and properly introduce him into society.

Revisado: 06-29-23
I thoroughly enjoyed this! Very clean but not boring. Likeable main characters. The subplot about the attempts on Jack's life ended kind of disappointingly, but the romance ended just as you'd hope. The narrator was a bit gravelly, but not bad.

Historia
Though American by birth, Frances Wynn, the now-widowed Countess of Harleigh, has adapted admirably to the quirks and traditions of the British aristocracy. On August 12th, each year, otherwise known as the Glorious Twelfth, most members of the upper class retire to their country estates for grouse-shooting season. Frances has little interest in hunting - or birds or a second husband - and is expecting to spend a quiet few months in London with her almost-engaged sister, Lily, until the throng returns.

Great second book in the series!
Revisado: 06-16-23
Great, engaging characters and an interesting mystery. The action got off to a quick start and I was invested in the mystery right away. I did guess the killer early on... Not due to any real evidence; they just seemed a likely person. And the last third of the book seemed a bit repetitive and dragged. But overall an enjoyable read.

Historia
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.

An unexpected gem
Revisado: 05-24-23
I find that free books on Audible are disappointing 9 out of 10 times, but this was that special 10%. Such a delightful story with a fun variety of characters! I didn't find the ending super satisfying, in the sense that I saw it coming too soon, but the rest of the story was great. I wasn't thrilled by the narrator; she had strange inflection, like every sentence was a question. But she did great accents.

Exciting adventure
Revisado: 04-22-23
For me, this book was like a cross between Why Didn't They Ask Evans and The Man in the Brown Suit. It was more of an adventure than the average Christie mystery. I loved the variety of characters, and I definitely thought I knew who Mr. Brown was until the last moment. The only thing I didn't enjoy was all the political details and the American accents.

Historia
Written in the winter of 1849, The Scarlet Letter unfolds the story of Hester Prynne, a young woman branded as an adulteress in the harsh Puritan world of 17th-century New England. As Hester calls on her inner strength to transcend her shame, the scarlet letter ceases to be a stigma and finally becomes Hester's symbol of self-affirmation. This dramatic reading heightens the sense of lyric poetry that permeates every line of Nathaniel Hawthorne's great novel.
