Historia
On a backstreet in Tokyo lies a pawnshop, but not everyone can find it. Most will see a cozy ramen restaurant. And only the chosen ones—those who are lost—will find a place to pawn their life choices and deepest regrets. Hana Ishikawa wakes on her first morning as the pawnshop’s new owner to find it ransacked, the shop’s most precious acquisition stolen, and her father missing. And then into the shop stumbles a charming stranger, quite unlike its other customers, for he offers help instead of seeking it.

The Words Themselves Are Just As Delicious as the Story Itself
Revisado: 04-07-25
I adored this story’s lyrical, poetic prose just as much as the story, itself! I switched between reading the hardback and listening to the audiobook. It’s delightfully imaginative, and I am already looking forward to reading it again in the future!

INSANE VALUE for my favorite book series!
Revisado: 05-25-23
I have LOVED the Wisteria Series from the beginning - pre-ordering every new book as soon as they became available on Amazon!
But -- I've never listened to any of the audiobooks. I can read so much faster than I can listen. Now, however, I have a new job where I spend a lot of time driving, and reading and driving is generally frowned upon. ;P
So, this book bundle came up in my recommends, and I immediately purchased it! I love spending time in Wisteria, and these audiobooks are no exception. In fact, they've helped me appreciate the series so far in new and exciting ways. I find myself feeling differently about characters after hearing them with different voices and nuances than I had imagined. Which is a fun new way to experience everything!!
The bundle also features different narrators, which surprised me, initially -- because we have one narrator doing Zara's books, and one doing Zinnia's books. (See how well I read anything before I immediately purchased it? LOL) I approve, though, because each narrator sets her own tone for each novel. Zinnia's books are much more toned down than I had imagined them, but I think it still fits Zinnia's character very well. She's a pretty good foil for Zara.
All in all, I know how much work goes into producing audiobooks, so I can't believe we get 8 for one credit. It almost feels like stealing, lol. But, I think it did its job, because I have several credits saved up, and I know where I'll be spending them, now! :D

Looking at real estate isn’t usually a life-or-death situation, but an apartment open house becomes just that when a failed bank robber bursts in and takes a group of strangers hostage. The captives include a recently retired couple who relentlessly hunt down fixer-uppers to avoid the painful truth that they can’t fix their own marriage. There’s a wealthy bank director who has been too busy to care about anyone else and a young couple who are about to have their first child but can’t seem to agree on anything.

There are no adequate words
Revisado: 04-12-22
Fredrik Backman’s novels will make you feel ALL of the emotions. There are no words that I can say that will convey the deep beauty of his novels, this one included. They’re ALWAYS worth the listen.

Historia
Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus crazy. She is also Elsa's best and only friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas, where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

Fantasy and Reality Expertly Woven Together
Revisado: 11-21-17
I laughed so hard in the first chapter or so that I had tears in my eyes. That launched me into the rest of the novel, full of fantasy and a deeply-woven reality that you feel in your bones. I actually began reading this paperback novel aloud to my children. Then, we bought the Kindle edition, and finally, we finished with the audiobook while we were on hour-long trips. My kids are 12 and 13, and they enjoyed this novel as much as I did. It's been a few months since, and we still talk about it all the time. I loved discovering how Granny's story intersected with everyone else's, and the narrator did a fantastic job capturing Elsa's adult-like musings, and Granny's child-like dislike for authority. It was so much fun, while also evoking so many tears. It was perfect, and I'm going to check out the other books in the series. (Though no place will possibly be as fantastic as Miamas!)

Magical Narrator
Revisado: 11-20-17
I'm not a huge fan of listening to books over reading them, BUT, I have recently discovered that they're great for times when I can't read with my eyeballs - haha! I listen while I do the dishes, or drive, or clean my house. It helps me consume so many more books than I could otherwise.
My kids and I used to read every night before bed, up until just a year or so ago. Now, they're busy right up until bedtime being their own people, haha, playing on their computers with their friends, rather than listening to mom read.
I found this book, and thought the boys might like it, so we started listening to it in the car on our regular hour-or-longer trips.
First of all, we love the book. The story is sweet, and Fierion (haven't seen it spelled, lol) is my favorite! Secondly, I have NEVER heard a narrator that has such a lilting, magical quality to her voice. Narrating this audiobook is PERFECT FOR HER. I especially love her voice for Xan - she sounds just like the effervescent Debbie Reynolds.
I usually prefer reading books myself, but I will probably never read this Kindle book, because I love the audiobook performance so much. I'm going now to see what else she has read! <3

All Caught-Up
Revisado: 11-14-17
This phrase works on two levels - I'm caught up in this series like a hapless fly in a web, but I was perfectly okay with that, until.... I caught up to the most recent installment, AND NOW HAVE TO WAIT A YEAR FOR THE NEXT ONE.
Nope, nope, nope, I am not okay with that!!!

Bravely Done
Revisado: 06-30-16
I didn't know much at all about Sarah before I heard this book. I only loved her song, "Brave," and knew I'd probably love the person behind it.
I commend her for her honesty and bravery in telling these personal anecdotes. Writing of any kind can be scary, knowing people are going to judge you for something you threw your heart and soul into.
I also loved the bloopers at the end. As a fellow narrator, I can appreciate those little stomach gurgles and flubs of words. Go get em, Sarah! Can't wait to listen to your next book!

Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: the obedient child of immigrant professionals, a timid chubster afraid of her own bike, a Ben Affleck–impersonating Off-Broadway performer and playwright, and, finally, a comedy writer and actress prone to starting fights with her friends and coworkers with the sentence “Can I just say one last thing about this, and then I swear I’ll shut up about it?”

Funny and Real
Revisado: 09-03-15
There were several points in this book where I snickered, and some where I full-out belly laughed, because she notices things that I think no one else ever does.
For anyone who has ever felt a little insecure, Mindy helps you realize that you're not alone in wondering "Is everyone hanging out without me? (And other concerns)"
