Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

King's Masterpiece
Revisado: 09-08-16
I've listened to this at least 4 times, and always find it superb.
The narration is excellent.
I can't recommend this more highly, if you haven't read 'The Stand' you've missed a Masterpiece

Historia
Roger Ebert is the best-known film critic of our time. He has been reviewing films for the Chicago Sun-Times since 1967, and was the first film critic ever to win a Pulitzer Prize. He has appeared on television for four decades, including twenty-three years as cohost of Siskel & Ebert at the Movies. In 2006, complications from thyroid cancer treatment resulted in the loss of his ability to eat, drink, or speak. But with the loss of his voice, Ebert has only become a more prolific and influential writer.

Surprisingly good read
Revisado: 12-25-12
What did you love best about Life Itself?
I found the book really brought me into his world and the times he grew up in. It was really great to listen to all the stories behind the movies, actors, and directors. If you are a movie buff, you'll like this aspect of the book.I also liked that he never pulled any punches. He tells it, warts and all.
What does Edward Herrmann bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I found the narrator was just about perfect. His tone and cadence were bang on, and did not distract in any way.
Any additional comments?
It gave me a better understanding of the life of one of my favorite tv personalities. I also appreciate that even without the ability to speak, he is still connecting with his fan base in a great way.
