Relax and enjoy
Revisado: 02-29-20
I enjoyed this book in spite of a few flaws. Yes, there is a bit too much Picard moralizing but I think it was an acceptable way to give us Picard's inner thoughts that lead us to his resignation from Starfleet. It does set up the background to the Star Trek Picard new TV series and I enjoyed having that bit of background.
Lovers of the series can be critical of books and shows that seem to stray from canon. For me, just to be in the Star Trek universe again, rather it be books or TV or Film is enough. Relax and enjoy.

Excellent Dystopian Political Sc Fi Thriller
Revisado: 02-29-20
I loved this book. I've described it to friends as a dystopian political thriller with a smidge of Sci Fi thrown in. Having listened to it twice now, I've found it has stayed with me, in part due to the uncomfortable issues and moral complexities the plot centers around. The book has a great pace and is rather hard to put down. The audio book is read by Gemma Whelan who played Yara Greyjoy in Game of Thrones. Her narration is superb. Hopefully, they will have her read all the sequels. And I am looking forward to finding out what the next 10 years brings in the lives of these characters and the world they inhabit.

Peter Grant is facing fatherhood, and an uncertain future, with equal amounts of panic and enthusiasm. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with émigré Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's brand new London start up - the Serious Cybernetics Company. Drawn into the orbit of Old Street's famous "silicon roundabout", Peter must learn how to blend in with people who are both civilians and geekier than he is.

False Value is the best yet.
Revisado: 02-29-20
As a fan of the Rivers of London series, I was already inclined toward loving it before even starting the book. The surprise for me was how funny it was. There is a wonderful homage to Douglas Adams/Hitch HIker's Guide in the plot which I loved. Most of our favorite characters are back. Peter Grant is in fine form and he and Beverly are expecting twins which I expect heralds mayhem in future books in the series. There are new villians to fear and new characters to freshen the series. As always, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith brings it all alive with his reading. As soon as I finished it, I went right back and listened a second time. I think it may be my favorite in the series so far. If you haven't read any of the series yet, I recommend you start at the beginning to get full listening pleasure.

Historia
In midwinter in an English village, a teenage girl has gone missing and everyone is called upon to join the search. The villagers fan out across the moors as the police set up roadblocks, and a crowd of news reporters descends on what is usually a place of peace. As the seasons unfold and the search for the missing girl goes on, there are births and deaths, secrets kept and exposed, livelihoods made and lost, small kindnesses, and unanticipated betrayals. Reservoir 13 explores the rhythms of the natural world and the repeated human gift for violence.

This is not a mystery!
Revisado: 12-06-17
This book may not be what you are expecting. The book begins with the disappearance of a young girl but she is rarely mentioned after the first chapter and then only in an oblique manner. The story is really about the inhabitants of a small village in the peak district and takes place over a 13 year period starting from the young girl's disappearance. The young girl and her parents are visitors to the village leaving the villagers to care about the lost girl, but there is never a sense that their lives are forever changed by the incident. The novel follows the seasonal and yearly changes of individual villagers over the next 13 years.
I enjoyed it more on the second listen through when I focused on the rhythm of the seasons and village life and put away my expectation of a good mystery. And for those readers who like resolutions to a story, I'd recommend a different book.

One of the Best Star Trek books
Revisado: 03-01-15
If you could sum up Sarek in three words, what would they be?
I originally purchased the abridged version which seemed somewhat muddled. I recently discovered this unabridged version and thought I'd give it a try. Very glad I did. It's a wonderful read. There's a good back story of Sarek, Amanda and Spock as well as the usual adventures with the Enterprise and it's crew.
What about Nick Sullivan’s performance did you like?
Performance was better than I expected considering Nick Sullivan isn't one of the Star Trek characters. The abridged version is read by Mark Lenard who played Sarek so of course the reading is perfect but the unabridged book is so much better and Nick Sullivan does a good job so I recommend the unabridged version.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did
Any additional comments?
I wish all of the Star Trek books were available as unabridged.

Historia
It is a tale of ghosts, of madness, of revenge - of old alliances giving way to new intrigues. Denmark is changing, shaking off its medieval past. War with Norway is on the horizon. And Hamlet - son of the old king, nephew of the new - becomes increasingly entangled in a web of deception - and murder. Beautifully performed by actor Richard Armitage ("Thorin Oakenshield" in the Hobbit films), Hamlet, Prince of Denmark takes Shakespeare’s original into unexpected realms, reinventing a story we thought we knew.

Superb audiobook
Revisado: 06-27-14
Would you listen to Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel again? Why?
I've already listened to it several times. Richard Armitage doesn't just read the book; he performs the book. The novel is very good but the true joy is listening to the narration.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel?
It was all exceptional but for me what was memorable was Mr. Armitage's ability to make me believe I was listening to a full cast production.
Which scene was your favorite?
I didn't have a particular favorite scene. The whole book is excellent.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Starring Richard Armitage as Hamlet
Any additional comments?
This is a novel based on the play. Purists may grumble but it is well written and maintains all the key elements.

"All it would take was my true name being mentioned after dark, and it would float back to my aunt. The fact that spotting the missing Elven American Princess had become more popular than spotting Elvis helped."

Much Sex, Little Plot
Revisado: 11-19-11
I wish I had read more reviews before purchasing this. There was a thin plot but not one that seemed to have any point to it except to provide a reference point for numerous superficial sexual encounters. Frankly, I found it boring. I won't bother with any more.

Another Great Listen
Revisado: 10-29-11
City of Lies picks up where Museum of Thieves ended. I suspect there is going to be a third book to continue the series. The story was good but what really makes the audio book is Claudia Black's narration. She doesn't just read; she performs. Ms Black is an actor, best known for her performances in the Sci-Fi series Farscape and Stargate. She brings all her acting talent to her audio book readings making for a great listening experience. I hope we hear more narrations from her.

Not The Mystery I was Expecting
Revisado: 07-22-10
I bought this book expecting a nice mystery. There is a mystery of course, but the book is predominately a Christian book, with Mac the central character spending a weekend with God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit. The writing is fine, the narration good but if you are not interested in listening to Christian books, best to give this a miss.
