Historia
Minority Leader of the House and Joe DeMarco's long-time employer John Mahoney has kept more than one secret from his wife over the years but none so explosive as this: He has a son, and that son has just been shot dead in a bar in Manhattan. Mahoney immediately dispatches DeMarco to his native New York to provide prosecutor Justine Porter with any assistance necessary, but with five bystanders willing to testify against rich boy Toby Rosenthal, the case seems like a slam-dunk - that is, until Porter begins to suspect that someone is interfering with those witnesses.

Very good story, right up to the end
Revisado: 06-20-22
I enjoyed this book a lot. The story was engrossing. When not listening I would find myself wondering what the characters were up to.
The narrator was nasally, and did not do a very good Brooklyn accent. More like a bugs bunny imitation (who was modeled after a Flatbush accent, so maybe I’m wrong. I was just born and raised there.)
And Albany is pronounced Awl-bany.
Still, she did a good job and these things probably wouldn’t even be noticed by non New Yorkers.
Definitely worth a credit.

Historia
Beth Montgomery seems to have the perfect life: a beautiful house in the hills above Los Angeles, a handsome, ambitious husband, and plans of starting a family. So it doesn't occur to her to worry when the news breaks of a quadruple homicide across town, a botched drug deal that leaves an undercover officer among the dead. Beth certainly would never think to tie the murders to the sudden reappearance in her life of wild, sexy Cassie Ogilvy, the estranged best friend she hasn't seen since they were college roommates.

Loved this book!
Revisado: 09-13-21
This was a great, twisting story. The characters were good, both likable and dislikable, and so was the narration. Highly recommend.

A classic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Crichton, Sphere is a bravura demonstration of what he does better than anyone: riveting storytelling that combines frighteningly plausible, cutting-edge science and technology with pulse-pounding action and serious chills.

I wanted to like it
Revisado: 05-08-20
This book is interminable. It starts off interesting. But then gets lost in its own way. I got the feeling Mr. Crichton didn’t have an end in mind there for a while, and just kept rambling about the underground habitat, and one bad thing after another kept on happening. That part reminded me of a teenage slasher movie.
I only finished it because I needed to see how the people got to the surface again. And once they did, I was still disappointed.

Interesting story, too much detail
Revisado: 05-02-17
Good plot, it kept my interest overall. However, I'd zone out occasionally when the author went off in detail tangents.
The accents were kind of annoying.

Robot narrator
Revisado: 09-29-16
As others have stated, this narrator is awful.
Every so often I'd remember the review that said it was narrated by their car's GPS and laugh. It's true.
But shame on whomever allowed the narrator to do it. I can't blame the guy for his lack of talent, but I can blame anyone who releases this and has the audacity to charge money for it.
Also, please inform the narrator that reagent is pronounced "re-agent" and that the malt beverage is colt 45, not colt 44. That gave me a great laugh. Just ask Billy Dee Williams.
And narrator, New Yorkers call the street "How-ston", as you did once in a sentence, but in the VERY SAME SENTENCE called it Houston.
Apparently everybody not from New York speaks with a southern accent, regardless of place of origin.
Oy vey, I could go on and on but I won't.
Wait, maybe I will. WORST. FAKE. GERMAN. ACCENT. EVER. How he gets "helfer" from a word that is spelled "hilfe" is beyond me.
Great book, great story. I wish they would have someone else narrate it.
