Historia
Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened. When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Ran across this, and have been hooked from the first sample. Excited to read the rest of this series, and may actually go back to read Omega Force.

Historia
It's spring in Burgundy. The flowers are out and so are the cardinals - of Pope Urban's renegade papacy, now on the run from the Vatican's would-be usurper Borja. Most of the Church's senior leaders have converged upon the city of Besancon, where the Pope plans to offer an ecumenical olive branch to the other Christian denominations with which Rome has been at war. Fortunately, Urban has up-time help. He can rely upon Cardinal-Protector Larry Mazzare's theological savvy, Sharon Nichols' medical skills, and her husband Ruy Sanchez's keen-eyed experience as a bodyguard-in-chief.

Vatican II only 400 years sooner!
Revisado: 09-21-18
While there is some action and intrigue, it is primarily a political/ecumenical thriller. If you are not a history buff, or don't have a basic understanding of religious strife in Europe of the era, you will find yourself quickly lost. Even reading a few articles on the era and it's religious strife will help with background, as will an understanding of what Vatican 2 is and it's significance to the Catholic Church.
One of my greatest thrills is to dig deeper into elements of Eurpean and American History that I had not encountered before. Yet, I continue to see this as a continuing complaint by many readers. In a Google era such ignorance is inexcusable.

Very "Literary"
Revisado: 08-04-17
There were a thousand and one detsils that I was constantly begging for. Every chapter had at least one passage that felt overly wordy. Don't get me wrong, the story is gripping, but the author forgets to tell it.

Coming of Age Story
Revisado: 01-28-17
Obviously I have missed a couple of JR books, as I knew nothing of him being on leave. The narrator is fantastic, and I look for other work he has done.
Overall, the story does well as a stand alone novel, but also builds the character. Would like to see his friends from this adventure appear in future novels. About time JR built his own network of contacts, his dad's are getting long in the tooth.

Historia
Though the Thirty Years' War continues to ravage 17th-century Europe, history as it once happened has been strongly deflected by the new force that is rapidly gathering power and influence: the United States of Europe, an alliance between Gustavus Adolphus, King of Sweden, and the West Virginians from the 20th century, led by Mike Stearns, who were hurled centuries into the past by a mysterious cosmic accident - the Ring of Fire.

Definitely Tangled

This book is the bits and pieces of its sister book that did not fit in the other, but without the assistance of an independent plot to hang them on.

Interesting, but
Revisado: 01-04-16
Either I have read this book before or the author reused elements of old Tom Clancy stories to tell part of it. Not the best of the old or the new, nor is it a vital link in the Campus chronology.
