narration and monologue problem
Revisado: 03-20-24
the series has a meandering problem with its monologue which are very forced and are inserted mid-paragraph in a way that broke immersion and flow.
the problem is further accentuated by the performance of the 2 narrator into creating a whining effect to the listener, thus make it very hard to kept yourself listen more than 10 minute. thus cost me more than a year to finish this volume.
.
the series will much better narrated if the narrator would be a single person and performance be more monotone in nature(i.e. non-abridged)

Historia
"The Golden Brat", Reinhard von Lohengramm, a military prodigy and admiral of the Galactic Empire, has ambitions beyond protecting the borders or even defeating the empire's enemies. He seeks to overthrow the old order and become a truly absolute - yet benevolent - dictator. His rival, the humble Yang Wen-li of the Free Planets Alliance, wishes to preserve democracy even if he must sacrifice his political ideals to defeat the empire.

Historia
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

An interesting noir hearing
Revisado: 07-02-22
Came back from book 2 to review and the performance of the narrator here felt much less whiny, probably due to the majority of the writing are exposition instead of dialogue and thus with allowed for much less expression to show through.
.
Overall a good hearing session for a noir story in 40k setting, but listener would probably want to read book 2 instead of listen - and book 3 as well.

Narration problem
Revisado: 07-02-22
The book writing is engaging for those who seek a noir detective experience in 40k setting.
The problem with narration however is that the narrator have a habit of over-expressed that reach into whining woman territory combined with slow reading speed that produce a very grindingly unbearable effect and makes a lot of the parts required speeding up.
Choosing a female narrator suit the POV but this style unfortunately gives the impression of the MC being an inexperienced-impulsive-childish teenager in young adult, not a trained operative worthy of inquisition rossete.
The narrator performance in spear of the emperor was much better so not the best hearing.
