Inspiring and fun
Revisado: 05-24-23
Loved the characters. Made me want to out on an Abba playlist. Would have given the story four stars but the character development became somewhat repetitious. Otherwise a really light hearted and fun listen!!!

Did not care about this character

This was a DNF for me. I didn’t find ne the story compelling and the primary character was truly whiny.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

All I could think is this story is relentless
Revisado: 02-04-23
Loving this story is like saying you love the state of human misery and income inequality and death rates in the United States. But loving Kingsolver’s modern twist on David Copperfield and rooting for Demon and his kindred are inevitable IF you can get through this book. I must admit that I had a hard time listening to the narrator with his relentless recounting of misery in his Southern Virginia drawl. Not until about half way through the twenty-one hours of audible did I finally settle into both the pace and the cadence. And then I embraced him. At the end of this tale I was emotionally spent.

Such an authentic voice. I love the story of Dominican immigrants in a gentrifying New York. But the voice of the narrators made the experience!!!
