One of the best stories so far!
Revisado: 04-16-25
I'm bummed that we no longer have the same Alex Cross (narrator). It was okay, but not the best. The story, however, is one of the best ones so far in the series!! There's LOTS of twists and turns in this one, and the ending is epic (and a LONG time coming!) I am a little worried about the future books. though. Not sure why they got rid of Peter J. Fernandez. :(

Glad that we now have a consistent Alex Cross
Revisado: 04-03-25
Grateful for the consistent narrator but kind of disappointed by the ending. I won't spoil anything but "come on now, really?!" came out of my mouth. I've got high hopes for the next book as it looks like it'll he a new nemesis. These last few books have been "beating a dead horse." Maybe I need an Alex Cross break. Haha (I'm on a mission to read all 35 books)

Same great narrator, a personal story, and a twist!
Revisado: 03-21-25
I'm SO GLAD that they've been able to keep the same narrator for Alex Cross. The story was definitely more on a personal level than the previous books, but that's to be expected when you're 10 books into a series. It had a James Patterson twist and I was also surprised there wasn't an epilogue this time. On to book 11!

Absolutely BEST NARRATORS yet!!
Revisado: 02-26-25
I started my Alex Cross journey via the 2 Morgan Freeman movies from the 90's and it was reignited via the Alex Cross show on Prime. I've been doing Audible for the last few years and after watching the show, I decided to listen to every Alex Cross book ever written. The first few books were rough, narrator-wise. I was worried. But the last book (Roses are Red) really changed it all for the better! I'm SUPER happy that this book, alas with a whole new narrator, had finally perfected the voices of Alex, Nana Momma, and Sampson. I'm nervous about the future books as I've learned that narration is as important, to audible books, as the story itself. But here's to hoping that the "later" books were able to continue with amazing narrator options! On to book 7!!

Thank GOODNESS they finally found an amazing narrator! The story is great, as expected but honestly, it's been the narration that has been an issue up until this book. Highly, highly recommend!

Alex Cross is back - and so is a raging and suicidal Gary Soneji. Out of prison and dying from the AIDS virus he contracted there, he will get revenge on Cross before he dies. In addition, we are introduced to a new pair of rivals whose paths cross that of Alex and Soneji. Thomas Augustine Pierce has been chasing his demon, Mr. Smith, since the savage murder of his fiancée. Mr. Smith is a unique monster, with actions toward his victims so insane - so unimaginable - that he is thought of as "not of the Earth".

Save yourself and find a better audio version!
Revisado: 01-23-25
Even though I listened to the preview, it doesn't allow you to hear both narrators and the characters they play. Had I been able to get a refund and do the other version (even though I think it has backing music the whole time), it would've been MUCH better than this one. Alex Cross is not some redneck, unlike the narration in this book. He makes Sampson and Nana Mama sound TERRIBLE. I'm not finished with the book yet, but I got slapped with the 2nd-half major narration change and it's somehow worse! I feel bad because I'm sure the narrators are great in other books, but when you have a set character like Alex Cross (and family), you can't just change their entire ethnicity/background. Definitely shop around.

Great first book, but...
Revisado: 12-19-24
If you read the reviews, you'll see it's pretty universal that Taye's narration was a let-down. That is unfortunate because he is a great actor. However, his reading was very plain and as someone else mentioned, it was almost like a teenager reading in front of class. I look forward to reading the rest of the Alex Cross series and I'm grateful that there is a new narrator for the rest of it. Haha

I've been waiting the whole book to write this review...
Revisado: 10-30-24
I'm going to start by asking WHO CHANGES NARRATORS EIGHT BOOKS INTO THE SERIES?!!
I was so upset by the change that I tried to return the book, but because I bought it with a debit card, I couldn't get a refund. SO PROTIP: If you are new to Audible, make sure to buy the books with credits.
I believe that Steve Webber is an excellent narrator when the entire cast hasn't already been established by somebody else. However, starting book eight with somebody *totally different* was so distracting that I almost just quit the book completely. Esperanza isn't Latina anymore. Win isn't the snooty WASP that we love. He completely changed the personality of the parents. Honestly, it's just too much.
I have already decided to purchase the rest of the series in paperback. I'm just going to read them in Jonathan Marosz's voice. If you have already been listening to the previous narrator, don't bother purchasing this book.

Historia
Myron's sports agency is struggling. Now more than ever, Myron needs to keep his eye on the ball, sign up some big-name clients, and turn away from the amateur detective work that is taking precious time away from the agency. But life is not going according to plan. Emily Downing, Myron's college sweetheart, reappears with devastating news: Her 13-year-old son, Jeremy, is gravely ill and can be saved only by a bone-marrow transplant - from a donor who has vanished without a trace. An even bigger shocker: Jeremy is Myron's son, conceived the night before Emily's wedding to another man.

Excellent book even though it sounds like the end of Myron Bolitar. I'm obviously super late to the party so maybe this was meant to be his last one. It's going to be like a whole new series with a new narrator.
