Charming, easy little read that speaks to how we're wired as social mammals. Made me wonder if being a rental person could become an actual profession.

The 10+ hours of this book flew by. I was surprised when it ended. Kidder has a gift for engaging g the reader/listener, and the narrator is fantastic, lending characterization to the different voices.without seeming overly affected. A warning: this listen is making me seriously rethink my life priorities. You likely WILL feel guilty while listening. This is, I believe, part of the author's intent, and Dr Farmer's.

*the narrator is delightful*... this could be deadly dull, but she delivers with a kind of tongue in cheek drama that makes it easy to keep going. occasionally the example sentences have made me chuckle aloud (mostly due to her delivery, but some of the sentences are cute in and of themselves). the example sentences use idiomatic phrases that aren't always covered in more standard material.

I dont think this will make much sense to complete beginners, but as an intermediate student (B1-B2) I am enjoying it. this really truly is a list that appears to have been generated by a computer which analyzed single word frequencies from newspapers and television shows, with no further analysis. thus, different conjugations of the same verb are listed as separate words. slang terms , up to and including f bombs, are on the list. the word "York", as in Nueva York," makes the list somewhere in the 600s (nueva came in earlier). it's an interesting approach overall. recommended.
