Problematic, with moments of hilarity

Very very funny and pretty Problematic
Issues: Consent. The male lead says no to to the female leads sexual advances so many many times and the female she keeps pushing. If the roles were reversed, we would be outraged. I thought were we past narratives like this. It’s not hot to keep pressuring any gender. Then the bdsm scene- the humor fell flat due to the complete lack of understanding of that culture. Bdsm is ALL ABOUT CONSENT AND TRUST. That scene was so uncomfortable to listen to because again if the roles were reversed, it would have been a painted as a sexual assault. In the book, it was meant to be funny humiliating the male lead. Who definitely did NOT consent to any of what happened to him.

Also, the relationship had so many red flags. I wish if authors are going to have unhealthy relationships, they paired it with the characters getting real help to better understand the problems. The male lead was pretty mentally abusive at times. And the age difference made it more…uncomfortable. The female lead is 22. Totally ok to have age differences- but this book, highlighted an intellectual and maturity difference. He put this gal through the wringer. I guarantee if her friends and family knew about his hot and cold/“alpha male” behavior, they would have told her to run for hills.

So, my hope, is that the author takes a look at the narratives she has published and gives more attention to positive, healthy, consensual relationships and steer away from the toxic masculinity and unhealthy stereotypes. This author is hilarious and I am confident, if anyone can make consent and healthy dynamics funny it is her!!

I never wanted this book to end. Between the thoughtful writing to the exceptional narration, it was beautiful.
I laughed out loud. I cried. I have never wanted to hug characters like i did for this book. Thank you Cara. You out did yourself. ❤️

Bawling - this was a tough one. Really good. But tough. The narration as always brings the story to life. Worth the listen and the heartbreak

Sooo good and super funny

I found myself laughing out loud several times and even went back to re listen, just to laugh again. Really good character development and insight into complex and relatable relationships issues (romantic, friendship, and parent/child)

Overall I love Kristan’s books :) I am re-listening to a bunch of them. This one has a pretty decent story line. It has a pretty problematic chapter where the father meets a trans man. Kristan uses “she male” and calls the character he when the character clearly is a female.
So, not aging super well. Cringy. It would be cool if Kristan would go back and update with some kindness :)

So cute, funny, and a joy for the ear holes. I really like when these two authors get together for our reading/listening pleasure !!
This is a fun, easy, listen. Love all the narrators.
Love fest over here !

Pretty funny at times

There were some pretty funny parts. The narrators were ok. The gentleman was a bit robotic. I probably won’t listen to the rest of the series.

Can’t even finish it

I love Meghan Quinn. She is freaking hilarious. Unfortunately, I can’t even listen to this one because it is so unhealthy. I am stopping at the scene where the “love interest” is also her manager and is telling her she can’t go to the supervisor to change who managers her because she will look like she doesn’t work well with others. Wtf. So, unless I this book takes a serious turn - I am done. If you think it redeems itself please let me know :)

Ps oh and for some reason the male voice is annoyingly quiet and when the female responds it is jolting lol!
